As is well known, the regulations of the Red Cross restrict activities to securing funds. This meeting, therefore, was called for this purpose. Mrs. Fred Meal's presided. It was the unanimous agreement of those present to request -the mayor to announce a paper day on Satur day, April 21. Similar means for raising money have been tried in the city and have proven very success ful. All who have old papers (such as newspapers, magazines, etc., but not pasteboard) are very cordially asked to assist by bringing them any time this week to the fire department house. It would bo very helpful if they would tie the bundles with strong twine (not cord). V, Meldo Hillis, superintendent of schools, warmly approved the sug gestion that the school children gather papers after school hours and very kindly gave the use of the school sheds as centers for collec tions. The children will please bring their papers to their respective schools on Saturday, The children of St, Mary's 'Academy will bring their collections to the parish hall. The people outside of Medford are earnestly invited to co-operate and bring what they have, "Many a mickle makes a mnckle," say the Scotch, and it is by these lit tle aids that the Medford chapter of the Red Cross will be enabled to have abundant menus to do the ef ficient work that befits our city. It is the patriotic duty of all to lend their assistance in any way that may be of service to the country. The help to the cause of the Bed Cross should, therefore, receive n hearty response, for what is done to aid it is done for the country. Let the slo gan for Saturday be, "Paper weight in name only."
