The greatest '"'patriotic duty within the power of the average American citizen today Is the conservation of the nation's po tato, supply. Eugene H. Grubb, an authority on potatoes, told members of the Hamilton club at a luncheon herp today. The potato has enabled Gerpiany to prolong the war at least two years, he said. 'JThore is at this time In America . an insufficient supply of seed pota toes to plant a 191 7. crop large enough to satisfy the needs of our people," Mr Grubb continued. "All of the seed potatoes now on hand should be - planted and It is a patriotic duty of every citizen to Bee that the crop is brought to maturity. -;"American people are very waste ful ln"he use of the potato. The av erage housewife wastes from 12 to IS per cent of the food value by par- , ln away the best paTt of the tuber. TAp most economical way to prepare ': it is to cook with the skin on, either by boiling or baking, in this way it loses less than one per cent of the to tal food value."
