SENATOR HARRY LANE is sending out under govern ment frank, numerous explanations of his attitude as one ot the "wilful" twelve upon the armed ship bill. lie ibuster on the bill, yet encloses a copy of his revised speech in -which he presents his flabby filibuter. He declares he was willing to vote upon the armed ship bill that is to vote against it. Senator Lane opposed the tons with Germany. Jle opposed tiie armed neutrality bill ana ins reception ot tlio president s speech askine a dec laration of a state of war, indicates a vote against the pend ing resolution. Protesting his love for democracy, he fa vors a surrender of the rights of democracy to aggressive autocracy. Crating ot peace, lie would aid in the perpetu ation of the tyranny that is waging war on the world. Senator Lane concludes lows: "I spoko also for those who profit hungry people, our women and children who are now going without suf ficient clothing and those others across tho waters, our ancestors, whose women and children starve and dlo and whoso misery is not to be matched outside of hell, and awoke the next morning to learn that I was being de nounced by some for having kept my pledge to the people of Oregon that '1 would not willingly permit their rights to be Invaded.' " This sounds like the German press speaking of the holy Oerman cause ot destroying inanity. For the sake of our permit the Kaiser to go on destroying American ships, tor pedoing Belgian relief ships and slaughtering American cittizens, so that when the hour strikes, Prussian mili tarism can smite unprepared America and spread the misery of hell from Europe to America. The kept hyphenated press has applauded Senator Lane for favoring Germany in the quarrel with the United States. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant," shouts the New York organ of the kaiser, under Lane's pic ture as a reward for his armed ship filibuster. Mr. Lane, indeed, deserves an iron cross for carrying out the kaiser's policy in America. He is evidently Oregon's "blond sur vivor" Nitsche's superman "destined to rule over man kind." Lane's peace propaganda is necessarily a pro-German propaganda, and in the interest of Germany and against the interest of the United States because Germany is al ready and has been for some United States. Lane s advocacy or non-resistance is tor the benefit of German militarism in its struggle to de stroy democracy. His demands, though smeared with slush, are in effect that the rights, honor and sovereignty to permit Prussian auto cracy to dictate the laws of nations. Pacificist agitation at this time, only embarrasses the president and comforts Germany. It aids Berlin and cripples Washington. it strengthens German conspiracy and weakens American defense. Jt cannot serve any other end, it cannot avert war because Germany is already wag ing war upon us, and we have war whether we want it or not. Senator Lane's peace palavar then can only help the enemy and hamper the president, and is therefore akin to treason against the republic. Senator 1 tarry Lane is either for the United States, or he is for Germany. There are no it's and ands about it. lie is either patriot or traitor, and his vote will tell the story.
