The const met ion ol t he Tiller road will not make Crafcr
Lake wore accessible. The poor highway above Trail to
to the lake will be just as bad. The year's money
should be spent in improving the road from the park to
Prospect and the1 next year's below Prospect. When llie
Crater Lake highway is constructed, the building of the
.Tiller road will follow naturally in file future.
Last year (he federal government, eo-opcraling with
the stale and county, made a complete survey and iocaled
the route of the ( 'raler Lake highwav. Kslaiuates of cost
have been finished and the project is readv for construc
tion upon the letting of contracts. Under the road bonding
act, this highway is given preference among the forest
roads.
The building of this highway is very dear to the hearts
of the people of Jackson county. They .secured a state ap
propriation of $'1 ')(),()()() in 1 )())' for ils construction, but the
supreme court, invalidated it. v liublic subscrintion.
$l2f),()()() was raised and spent in eliminating the worst fea
tures of the grade, Governor West, co-operated by estab
lishing an honor camp of convicts and a not her iVction was
graded. Jackson county has spent, upwards of $100,01)0 on
e liiiihwav and without this expenditure Crater Lake
would st ill he inaccessible to automobiles.
Now the statu is given opportunity to co-operate with
the federal government, in constructing a magnificent
highway and Jackson coiuity expects the state highway
commission to definitely set. 'at rest rumors of double-crossing

record for the immediate construction of this highway.
