In a prominent ly displayed leader the Lokal An zeiger this afternoon charges tlia United States with a broach of treaty obligations in "conipulsorlly detain ing" in America German subjects, who, under the treuty ol 1799, arc entitled, even in the case of an ac tual outbreak of war, to pursue) their avocations ilnniolestod. Recalling the charges of violation of treaties and the law of nations inndo against Germany in the earlier days of the war, the Auzelger continues: "The breach of diplomatic rela tloiis with the United States will probably be made again the occasion Kor levelling against us charges of breaking treaties and International h law in order to mobilize the indigna tion of the whole world against our shameful acts. It is therefore not at nil an act of supererogation, to point out now, while the deed is still fresh that the United States, simul taneously with the breach of rela tions, has been guilty of an unjusti fied breach of treaty In confiscating German property contrary to treaties between them and Germany and con demning German subjects 'whose profession' in the words of clause 23 of the treaty of 1709, serves the sus tenance of the general weal of hu manity, to compulsory detention. This in spite of tho fact that the cited article prohibits any molestation of German subjects in the United States, even in tho caso of war. "If treaties are thus trodden un der loot after a lireach of diplomat ic relations, when President Wil son's phrases that Americans uro sin cere friends of the German nation are still resounding, n-hut hare we to expect if the contingency for which we must be prepared arrives and war breaks out. If we cannot prevent a V breach of treaty we must at least call attention cleanly, openly and Im mediately to the fact that the United States government has violated the treaty of 1799 and tho general prin ciple bf tho law of nations before Germany ban undertaken anything which could give tho slightest shad ow of a pretext for such an action.-' F BUTTE, Mont., Feb. S. A special from Forsythe says the bodies of Mrs. C. V. McConenll and her Ihree babies aged five, six and eight were found huddled together and frozen to death within one hundred rods of their home near Vananda In the eas tern part of tho state yesterday.' The "woman was teaching school and with her children had been missing since Saturday when she started from tho school house, where she had been liv ing with the children, to their home stead, whore her husband was at W'ork. Saturday was warm, and the woman started to walk with the ba bies to her home to spend Sunday. A sudden blizzard came up which quickly exhausted the woman and her children. Tho husband thought them safe at the school house and no investigation was made until Monday when -Mrs.vMcConnell failed to ap pear In her school room. The school children - believed their teacher was at home and prevented from attend ing school by tho blizzard. Tuesday a searching party found the frozen bodies huddled together within a few minutes walk of the homestead cabin. ' ' I m CLUB ASKS FOR .NF.W YORK, Feb. 8.
