Much of this con- "' dition is due to a lack of rain, the ground being too. dry to work nicely. This .same. i situation confronted our farmers several years ago, but was overcome-by the, use of disc plows, ; which, with weights attached to them. f nut the dry ground inlo excellent shape for the seed, which was sown in the dust and produced a bumper crop the following season. -."Mr. Sturgis and family of Applc gnte visileil "th-heC'ntonf amity "Off , Wednesday- and Thursday; -; , -, . A turkey hen on the Nealon ranch, not being satisfied with her first hatch earlier in the season, tried it again and last week hatched out twelve fine turkeys, which seem to be enjoying the November weather immensely. A large field at the Modoc orchard has been plowed and seeded to grain, which is all tho seeding of any con sequence that has been dono in the .district. ... ' Now that tho election is over, let's settle down to business and not Scnd too much time arguing the senseless questions of what should have been or what might havo been. Some of us got what wo wanted nnd some didn't, but those of us who didn't cannot afford to waste valuable time grieving over the outcome. According to the democrats, we won't have any war to eontend with for the next four years, ad according to the republicans, we will have good times as long as the European war lasts, which from present indications will be some time vet.
