Numerous reports of the same char acter have been received bv t hi de partment since the beginning of the war. Investigation was made in each instance, but wuh unproductive. XKUTOKT, li. Abrnm, who ha returned from n fortnight' i-il to I'uget Sound cit ies. "Every whore I went, WiNon senti ment wn Mi-oh-. und the be-t polit ical judges in Seattle, -nmr of I hem Htrong republican:-, toh me the -lal- would prrduiblv in tor W'iNon. Five hundred persons scattered themselves through the iaryc halt of the Natatorium hist niuiit at the call of the republican campaign committee and cheered enthusiastically the ef fort h of the band, vocal solos 1 George. Andrews and two original p'ems by Hick Tosey of Ashland OnW about half the audience remain ed until tlie end of the meeting. Colonel Washburn of Table I presided over the meeting, and witl an appeal to the women in the audi ence, introduced Mrs. William Kent wife of Congressman Kent of Cali fornia, who stated that she appeared as the official representative of the women's party. This party, she ex plained, is placing the question of nation-wide woman's suffrage as tin paramount issue of the campaign. Mrs, Kent SMiks. My husband is for Wilson," she staled, ami was met by a spontane ous burst of applause, "but I am foi Hughes, and here the platform urn- tors and ushers, led by r'red Mears saved the meeting for Hughes by a heart' outburst. Wilson, she declared, has had 'the opportunity during his term as presi dent, to adopt (he suffrage amend ment to the constitution ami has not done so. Hughes, on the other hand, she staled, has declared for the amendment, and for that reason alone should receive the support of the wo man vote. "We are out after this amendment," she continued, "and we have picked the pnrtv whieh we con sider will carry our cause farthest." A. E. Clark of I'ortlatid, the princi pal speaker of the evening, in a long address flayed the foreign ami do mestic policies of the present admin istration, predicted certain industrial paralyatioti following a continuance of the present policy and accused President Wilson of a direct repudia tion of the rights uf American citizens to protection from their country. Predict. European Invasion, Following the end of the great con flict abroad, he said, the belligerent nations will be strengthened and made aggressive, and in case the Cnited Stales does not dear up the muddle in Mexico we may expect one or more of the foreign powers to lake the matter on), of our hands, settle the troubles there and possibly bring about a con flict with this count rv. The speaker grilled President Wil son in n comparison with Hughes. He showed the labor laws enacted under the administration id' Hughes as kv- ernor of New York, and against this record showed the record of Wilson as president of Princeton, and fpmtetl a number of speeches made by him to sophomores id' that institution ten and fifteen years ago. The eight-hour law was condemned by the speaker as n piece of futile, coerced and discriminatory legisla tion. Stutetsnmn Vacillating. The statesmanship of President Wilson was characterized as vacillat ing and futile and utterly unable to cope with the present issues, whieh the speaker characterized as the greatest in half a century. Against ihis characterization, the record and declarations of Hughes as presidential candidate was held up. All republican women were urged to meet the ''Golden Special" al the sta tion next Sunday morning and meet the bevy of "charming and cultured'' women who are its crew.
