Mr. Moore returned from the moun tains with the youug heifer that strayed from his bunch. George Stacy of Beagle was in town Saturday on business. Mr. and Mrs. William Blgham has rented a ranch in lower Sams Valley and are busy moving their stock and household goods this week. Lane Wyland and Wallace Dlukcn of the Meadows passed through the valley last Thursday with a fine bunch of beef cattle. Mr. Minott has sold his ranch In Doris, CaL, and has purchased forty head of sheep. A birthday dinner was given Miss Myrtle Chapman last Sunday. Sisters Lillian and Viola of Medford were present; also Claudo and friends of Central Point and Medford were there. All departed in the after noon. , Clarence Case Is hauling hogB to town this week. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Marshall of Cen tral Point spent Saturduy night with Mrs. Marshall's folks or Beagle. Kstly Baily of Central Point was hauling wood from the Jim Vincent ranch one day last week. A robbery took place at tho home of Mr. and Mrs. Minott one day last week. Thirty-five dollars were stol en and a good deal of jewelry. Mrs. Henry Morgan Is visiting home folks for a while. Mrs. Chapman returned home after spending a week with friends In Med ford. Mr. Gale of Beagle was hauling grain to town last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lucus of Beagle were in town Friday spending the night and returned home the next day. All the teachers will attond the In stlute this week. .There will be no school the last three days. Many people attended "The World of Pleasure" at the Page theater and also the carnival at the Nat. last week. I" Tuesday evening a body of local citizens gathered nt the opora house for the organization of a Hughes' al linncc. A petition had been cironlat ed for n charter, with almost sixty charter members. As a calling to or der. W. W. Truax explained the rea sons for such an organization, and the policy it would carry out. The following lemporarv officers were then elected; Chairman, Mrs. W. W. Truax; vice-chairman, Mrs. W. H. Stickel; secretary, Mrs. George Iver- son; treasurer. Mrs, Lucy Mce; com mittee on finance, Mrs. P. Langdell, Mrs. Lucy Mec, Mrs. A. E. Kellogg; committee on programs, Mrs. R. C. Kelsey, with power to appoint two a sistants. Judge C. B. Watson then gave a short talk on where Wilson had failed. Mrs. Stickel offered Ihe free use of the opera house. A unanimous vote of thanks was then tendered her. It was then moved and carried to ad journ until the charter arrives. Marion Lance was a visitor from Medford Thursday. Charles Young and wife were ii town the first of the week from Med ford. W. II. Edmunds returned on Mon dav from a four weeks' stav at the government camp at Crater lake. He was compelled to leave on account of his health. Mrs. R. C. Kelsey visited with Grants Pass friends Thursday, re turning that evening. Several frosty nights have changed conditions. One night the temperature was. down to 2G degrees. Quite a nip. On Wednesday night Phillip Resell ner spoke in the AL E. church on the brewers' beer amendment and "Ab solute Prohibition." His talk .was very convincing, showing many of the "jokers" in the brewers' amendment-. Everyone went away satisfied that if we want a clean ()reron wc must vote 315xo and SlfixYcs. Many present are now consulting the free booklets sent out by the state describing these measures. Mrs. Rose (lay was a passenger to Portland Sunday, where she will re main for some time. Vernon Milam, who recently went lo Mare Island to the navy school, ar rived home Saturday on a short leave on account of illness. Rev. E. I . Richards and wile, ac companied by the hitter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milner of Ashland, autoed to Gold Hill Sunday. Rev.
