THE HAMMER KNOCKS
CANDIDATE HUGHES is
V against the Adamson bill, which, by providing an
(light-hour day for trainmen,' averted a nation-wide strike
and national calamity. While finding fault he does not
explain how he would have handled the situation had he
been president.
Three methods were open to President Wilson, after his
personal efforts to secure a settlement had failed the
method followed by President Cleveland of permitting the
strike to occur, with its widespread industrial disaster,
then using the United .States troops to guard trains oper
ated by strikebreakers and so defeat the employes; the
method employed by President Roosevelt in the anthracite
coal strike, of waiting until calamity threatened tho na
tion, then calling the operators and strikers together and
forcing settlement by threat of government oeration of
coal mines under federal receiver, or the method followed
by President Wilson of appealing to congress for legisla
tion remedying the grievances.
When Mr. Hughes was governor of New York; he
vetoed the bills for two-cent passenger fares, full train
crews and an income tax. As supreme court justice he con
curred in the Dan bury hatters decision. In the light of
this record, what would Mr. Hughes as president have done
to settle the strike1? He will not say, but the probabilities
are that he would have followed the methods of Grover
Cleveland although the world has progressed since then.
' How much more would it have cost the country if
Hughes had been president instead of Wilson? How much
more would it have cost the orchardists of the llogue River
valley? ' 1

WHEN YOU WAKE
UP. DRINK GLASS
OF HOT WATER
Wash the poisons and toxins from
system before putting more
food Into stomach. ,
Says Inside-bathing ' makes any
one took and feel clean,
sweet and refreshed.
I)
Wash yourself on the Inside before
breakfast like you do on the outside.
This is vastly more Important becauBo,
the Bkln pores do not absorb impuri
ties Into the blood, causing Illness,
while the bowel pores do.
For evry ounce of fooi and drink
taken into tlie stomach, nearly an
ounce of waste material must be
carried out of the body. If this waste
material Is not eliminated day by day
it quickly ferments and generates
poisons, gases and toxins which are
absorbed or sucked Into the blood
Btream, through the lymph ducts which
should suck only nourishment to sua
tuin the body.
A splendid health measure la to
drink, before breakfast each day, a
glasB of real hot water with a tea
spoonful of limestone phosphate la it,
which is a harmless way to wash
tlicBe poisons, gases and toxins from
the stomach, liver, kidneys and
bowels; thus cleansing, sweetening
and freshening the entire alimentary
canal before putting more food lnts
the stomach.
A quarter pound of limestone phos
phate costs but very little at the drug
store but is sufficient to make anyone
an enthusiast on inside-bathing. Men
and women who are accustomed to
wake up with a dull, aching head or
have furred tongue, bad taste, nasty
breath, sallow complexion, others who
have bilious attacks, acid stomach or
constipation are assured of pro
nounced Improvement In both health
and appearance shortly.
