Louis Worth was visited on Sun day by his brother from Etna Mills, who came over by auto, round trip in one day. Mrs. Emtl Pell returned home from Klamath Falls last Saturday, accom panied by her father, Captain O. C. .Applegate of that. city. G. W. Kimball of Roseburg is In Ashland during the vacation season. Providing the Commercial Club moves to new quarters, it is unani mously conceded that the logical lo cation is In the Hotel Austin block, rooms in which are available for a nominal rental, including heat and light. Fred Tracey of the Western Union offices is taking the regulation midsummer vacation of two weeks. The initial trip has been made and the second one was due through here last Friday. The service is a day light one. The fall term of Circuit court begins at Jacksonville, Sept. 3. The grand jury is summoned for that date, and the petit jury a week later. Otto C. Denier, tho bcrcurial Frenchman, who was a recent candi date for park superintendent, and who, about a week ago, disappeared under mysterious circumstances, his last words being that ho was going fishing, was finally located at Horn brook, having been spirited off to that locality by spirits. Judge George X. Davis of Port land, before whom the suit of J. M. Sweeney vs. Jackson county Is being tried, took occasion recently to per sonally inspect the mountain road grade over the Sisklyous, concerning which the litigation was started. Sweeney has been here also and ex hibits confidence as to tho outcome in his favor. The amount In which Sweeney is sueing for an accounting runs into big figures, and the case is being argued before the Multno mah Circuit court. According to the classification schedules, 4 ! 0,560 acres of the origi nal Oregon-California land grant re mains unsold in Jackson county, out of the total ot 2,300,000 acres in western Oregon. It is this big tract which the classification crew is now "invoicing," beginning at a point near Pinehurst.' Miss Corlnne Kcagy, of Waterloo, Iowa, Is visiting her relatives hero, Miss Ethel Davenport and Mrs. Mur ray Murphy. Philip S. Rose and wife of River side, Cal., arrived early in the week for an extended visit with relatives. Victor Flint and Miss Grace Milam were married last week.
