Jt Jms been u year of unparalleled slaughter and destruction in Europe and on the oceans, a year of sorrow and bereavement for the rest of the world. Tho year J 915 witnessed a reerudescenee of barbarism and horror unmatched since Attila the Hun ravished Eur ope, scenes of violence and carnage unequalled in the an nals of history. The enlightened development of a thous and vears has been ruthlessly sacrificed in tin hour. To the widespread destruction on land has been added the horror of the wholesale slaughter of innocents on the high seas. There is lit lie about the year 1915 to inspire hope for tho future of humanity. Civilized man, stripped of his veneer, is revealed in brutal hideousness that even the brute never attained. The relapse has been complete. Alan has again been a yahoo. Yet it may prove the Pentecost of humanity. Nineteen hundred and fifteen has been a year of hard times and the pessimism that hard time breeds in the Pa cific uorl Invest particularly in the Rogue River valley, where to the general stagnation has been added the effects of drouth. By comparison with the rest of the world, our troubles, howevcj', are microscopic. "We really have nothing to complain of. If we had been uwalcc to our oppori unities and utilized the rivers that flow ou every side, drouth could not cripple production. If we utilized our natural soil, mineral and timber re sources by development, there would be abundant niatcr "ial prosperity. Nineteen hundred and fifteen has taught us a lesson. Et has seen the beginning of development. .More real prog ress has been made along enduring lines than any year in the valley's history. .If we permit 1910 to be a year of slagualiou, wilh national prosperity revived, we have only ourselves to blame. With abundant natural resources, with beautiful envir onments, with a climate nearly ideal, with capital awaiting co-operation for investment, 191G should be a banner year in permanent development. Let us throw off the lethargy of 1915 and awaken to the realization of our opportunities. f'1'1 ' m0mmm mun iiiinmanf a lf una nml nn.1 nun a ami It I II -"v tinti ,iunni;u uu nuttunn ju t Ar fli rKi,rt"Kr. f wbntovor wo havo accomplished. " :r-s h n it MiO Mil lllttafg' SfiSSL aking Powder y The palronsof our first class hotels and restaurants arc exact ing they demand the best. Women go where the pastry and cakes are noted for their excellence. Men arc attracted by hot bread and biscuits when fresli and moist and light. The pastry cook with a reputation uses K C Baking Powder because he knows tiiat results are certain; every time everything is as good as his best. Then, too, with K C Baking Powder he can mix the various kinds of baiter before the rush of the meal begins and bake as needed so that every order goes to the table fresh and hot, yet the last he bakes are just as good as ' 2 nrst. The reasons behind these reckons is tiiat n C Is really a blend of two baking powders. One commences to give off leavening gas as soon as moistened. The other requires both moisture and heat to make it active. Dough or batter will remain in a partially leavened condition for hours, and when put in the oven, will come up as light as if mixed a moment before. For cookies, pancakes," doughnuls and the like, which cannot all be baked at once, K C is indispensa ble. For all baking thedoublcraisc makes doubly certain.
