Let us have good roads and good schools mid the country will soon be .settled up with progressive farmers. Among the many improvements made along tho route one of the most important is tho putting in of a culvert in the stream in front of the I'eloiuo home, so that in the win I or the horses will not have to break the ieo to pass the place. The road hoxs hns opened up a way so that the travel can still cross in the wnter, hut in the cold weather they don't have to. When the county court agreed to make that piece of load two men, Jrank Brown and V. Peloitre agreed to haul fiOO yards of the crushed rocjc to put on the road, and Clnis N'atwick lias agreed to finist the part yet to haul by the two men, so that is rcciiiihI. Mr. IMoPhorsoii of Portland, a son-in-law of Thomas K. Nichols, has moved onto u farm just northeast of our town. (Ins (Ionium, tho foreman on the Laidlaw orchard, was in town Satur day and reports that he will have a fair crop of apples this year, consid ering that this has been a poor year for apples. J. M.
