MUTINEERS SAIL FROM SANTA ROSALIA ON IlOAIII) T. R. P. WEST VIR GINIA. Santa Rosalia ilex., Oct. 10, via wireless to San Diego, Cnl. Oct. 37. The mulinous Yuqui wlio mur dered Major Agnayo, tho military commandant of Snutn Itunli:i, on October 0 nnd seized the Mexican steamer Korrignn III with intent to raid and cniituro Lower California for General Francisco Villu, sailed fodnv for Gunymus after levying a forced Jean of 21,000 pesos on the lloleo company ( French) , which con tiols important copper mining con cessions near Santa Rosalia. Rear Admiral Howard, command ing the Pacific fleet, will soil for Guayiims on the West Virginia to night, lie came hero to investigate conditions, when he heard of the mu tiny, and found the town greatly re lieved to be rid of its gurrUou. minesIoaced WplUS i's republican .vent. Times jut luml, tlielv- foro pooplo will vote Tor a t'lmngo." This is tho stock uiul only argument of the stand-patter. It is not as forcible as it would have been had Wall street been able to bring about a financial panic as it strived to do. r H was undoubtedly the intention of the money trust to repeat the tactics practiced during the Cleveland regime bring about a panic, reap a golden harvest notii ov me de preciation of securities and the succeeding rise in valu ations, and secure a perpetuation of the reign of privilege by an appeal to the empty dinner pan. To secure non-interference with graft, hard titties were hronirht about and the democratic nart.v made the noat. People wore, taught that interference with the tariff and other nods of privilege meant hard times. During the years of plenty following, the public domain was gobbled, the mines, the' power, the timber stolen. The awakening of public conscience came almost too lute to save the people's heritage, which had gone to create ji new regime of millionaires. With the awakening, how ever, has ended much of the graft, of special interests. Con sequently the cry of hard times and the preconcerted effort to cause financial stringency at a time when bank vaults were bursting with money and record crops were bar- vested yielding record returns. In its contest with the government, big business lost, the tariff was reduced, the currency reformed, popular election of senators and the income tax became actualities. The anti-trust and other bills arc being enacted into law. The government has begun building railroads. Efforts to create a panic have been vhcekmated tit every turn and hereafter panics Avill be impossible. Neveheless, big business is sullen at its defeat and small business not yet adjusted to revised conditions. The European war has caused a cessation of exports and im ports, a stagnation of commerce and a loss in public rev enue conditions which are being sei'.ed upon by the tory politicians and predatory interests to create a public senti ment which they hope will sweep them into office and a restoration of privilege. Hence the cry of the reactionaries, "This is a repub lican year." Jleitce the tantrums on the evil effects of the tariff as demonstrated with Chinese eggs hence the empty dinner pail fillcxl with tainted timber. Hence the much ado about nothing, bugaboo scare to stampede the dear people into abandoning the program of progress. "Will the people heed the cry of the pirates of plutocracy and abandon "Woodrow "Wilson in his efforts to restore democracy before he has had a chance to carry out his pro gram or had a fair trial? "Will they heed the "wolf" cry of those who stole their birthright? The republican nominees for senator, for representa tive, for governor, are all reactionaries. Each is the recip ient or the beneficiary or the supporter of privilege. Etich despises the Oregon system. Each is an assembly advo cate. Each favors a restoration of the old regime of the days of graft, of the days of legislation for the few and for the exploitation of the many. Each opposes those con structive policies which will create a new nation, with a government for humanity, out of the United States, planned by Woodrow Wiison, of whom Senator TC. M. La Follette says: "President Wilson has the stamp of sincerity, of wise caution and fearless purpose. Full in the eyes of the world, he maintains a calm and poise in direct ratio to the responsibility that rests upon him. The country rejoices that Wilson is president." Will the people of Oregon testify their appreciation In' electing those who will aid Wilson to carry out his policy? IS NW RY OF GERMAN HOSTS in :i0 a. in. iiri'illclcit.
