According to farmers living in the neighborhood, Carpenter came out to his relatives' ranch Tuesday and was in n gloomy mood all day, nnd in the evening took n, walk down to the creek bottom. A pistol shot was heard and investigation confirmed the suspicion thnt the. young man had made nn attempt upon his own life. The bullet struck in the left shoul der and ranged upward. During the night the condition of the patient was precarious, but this morning ho rallied nml began to im prove. No doctor was in attendance. The young mnn is highly regretful over his action.
