The following concerning the new
firm is reprinted from "the Krnit

"The new incorporation of Den
nis, Kimball & l'ope, briefly alluded
to in. the last week's Guide, stand
for one of the most important and
widespread systems of distribution

among apple shippers and apple re
ceivers on this and the other bide

"G. XL Pope, the Bccretan anc
maungcr of tlio new corporation,
has spent n lifetime in the deciduous
business, and for tho last three
years been tbo New York agent of
tho California Fruit Distributors, n
position thnt in itself speaks vol
umes for Mr. Pope's experience and
ability, this probnbly being one of
the most important nnd arduous po
sitions of its kind within the gift of
any organization in the country.
"Dennis, Kimball & Popo are in
a particularly strong position, and
have facilities enabling them to put
before the western shippers nn or
ganization thnt can help their inter
ests in unsurpassed fashion, not
only in this country, but in all the
principal foreign markets. Needless
to say, the connections of V Den
nis & Sons all over Europe, in South
America, where the outlet for our
fruit is developing to a grcnter ex
tent year by year, and even in Cape
Colony, where we are gradually op
ening up new markets, ensure the
best possible disposition for nil

private sale markct, shippers in
terests are safe in the hands of n
concern, the partners in which at

"George D. Bills", Jr., who had

terests in Chicngo, will prove a

ford, Or., is ono of the best known
and most popular fruit men in the
northwest.
It would bo difficult to conceive
of n stronger lineup, not only in the

PORTLAND, Feb. 2a. Receipts
for the week have been: Cattle,
103-1; calves, !; hogs, 5702; sheep,
G'JCO.
A big week on tlio cuttlo market,
particularly tho first half. Offer
ings of butcher cuttle, cows, heifer,
etc., were extremely short of trude
needs compared with steel consign
ments. The best quality grain-fed
bullocks sold at $7.60 to $8, and
cows, $0.75 to $7. Dull trade wns
slow, but calves ruled firm. After
Monday receipts were not as heavj
us expected.
Hogs were the real sensation of
tho period, ns. they opened, up on
Mouduy nt $8.05 und got to $8.75 by
Wednesday, in tho face of u deluge.
Tho bulge was not a bpasm, either,
us it maintained n firm front right
up to tho close of the week. Buy
ing of swiuo was spirited nnd com
petition among tho killers to get

Lamb transactions carried off the
honors in tho sheep house, Several
lots of medium grade ewes went
