The mob, masked, armed and fifty or seventy-five strong, held up the train on which Sheriff Nichols of Da Soto county was taking McGuIrk and William Phillips, another negro sus pected of complicity in tho Ingram case, to jail, ordered tho train ahead and hanged McGuirk from a trestle near Love station.
