Scott, Southern Pacific Company, At a general meeting of the mum bens of the British Columbia o.uur tdon umlaut great enthusliinin. the fol- THE overshadowing issue before the voters of.MetU ford at Tuesday's election is an economical and bus iness administration of municipal affairs a curtailing of all unnecessary expense, reduction of taxation and niain tainanee of credit. The present council has admitted its inability to meet the situation, therefore a change is needed. Business men have presented a ticket of successful administrators of their own affairs, pledged to give their best efforts, with out cost, toward a reorganization of municipal affairs. They are actuated by civic patriotism and should receive the votes of every one interested in the city's welfare. This business men's ticket is composed of F. V. Mcdynski. first ward. Colonel 11. 11. Sargent and V. d. Enierick. second ward: T. W. Miles and Dr. 11. 1 liar grave, third ward. A vote for these men is a vote for the welfare of the city. In addition, there are five charter amendments to be voted upon. The first reads as follows on the ballet: "An Act to amend Section 100 of the Chnrter of tho City of Medford authorizing tlio Council of said city to carry out Its former contract with the Klcctrlc Light and Power Company for tho purpose of furnishing electric light nnd power to tho Inhabitants of unld City." This amendment extends the authority of the council to enter into a franchise of twenty-five years' time instead of ten veal's. The old franchise was ratified by the people, though contrary in time limit to charter, the company has acted in good faith, and the franchise quarrel should be settled. It will be up to the new council to arrange a set tlement with the company, anil this amendment gives the necessarv authoritv. The second charter amendment reads: "An Act to amend Section 55 of the Charter of the City of Medford entarglng the privileges of the elector or voter at all municipal oleetlous of said City." mm,:.. : ,..i:r. .,..,, ..:., ;.,.,i 1;.. .;..;.,, ;.. ti,.i .Ltua i-y hi hi III i till iiiiii'iioiiiui luiim intuitu iv tit nil, charter, and should carry. Tin's should pass, as it will enable a workingman to get to the polls before or after his day's work. The fourth charter amendment reads as follews: "An Act unloading the Charter of the City of Medford by adding therotc Section 72-b, authorizing and empowering the Council to borrow money on the fnlth of tho City for tho nolo purpose of constructing a now auxiliary reservoir and pipe lino In connection with the present water system cf nald. City, not to exceed a total cost of $5u,000." Medford does not need a second reservoir now. Tin city is burdened with enough indebtedness tit the present tune. All that the citv water svstem needs is a second pipe line over Bear creek, and this can be constructed at a cost of a few thousand dollars, out of water receipts. ote no on this amendment. The fifth amendment reads as follews: "An Act to amend Section 18 of tho Charter of tho City of Medford depriving tho Mayor, tho President of tho Council, and all members of the Council of any and all compensation from tho City, for their services as such officers." This is the initiative bill presented by the people, re jected by the council, then reconsidered and submitted. rote yes upon it.
