very sendate and quiet meeting Tues
day evening, tho show not being up
to Its advertisement. Forensic fire
works' were lacking.
Following tho reading of the min
utes tho mayor announced that he
had an appointment to offer. Spec
tators crowding the rooms held their
breath thinking tho match was about
to bo applied to tho powder. But
not oven a slzzlo followed. Mayor
Elfcrt submitted tho namo of Harry
G. Stocckmann as city engineer. Tho
solid four refused to confirm. Then
tho routine business was continued.
It was expected that other appoint
ments would bo submitted by the
