Tho money is lo go to u road fund lo be spent by u state rtad eoininissionoi', It such ait oFficial is created! Otherwise it is to revert lo the general fund of stale expenses. Automobile men will npt ob.joet to tho increased license fee, if tho money is spent" for good roads but none of the money is spent for good roads and there is no such official as the state road commissioner and may not be for some veal's. The state of Oregon docs not spend one cent on roads and highways anil never has. All the auto license money has gone into the general fund. Under the proposed law. it will still go there and the roads receive none of it, un less other legislation is enacted.. To insure the license money being spent on highways, the bill should be amended so that the money will be placed in the hands of the various county courts of the counties in which the licenses originate, for road improvement, in stead of reverting to the general fund of the state. In this way the roads injured by auto traffic would be kept in repair by the auto licenses. KEEP THE MARKET OUT OF POLITICS. the city election. No most prominent manufacturers in east and West Attend the annual automobile show t , GERMAN DUKE socmen needless to THE Mail Tribune took no part in t great issues were at stake nnd it stir up factional fights over trivialities. The Mail Tribune is, however, greatly interested in the success of the public market. The' market was established largely because of the agitation conducted by this papl-r, and its onening was followed by a boycott against the paper. Therefore the paper has. pride iii making it a suc cess. The Mail Tribune's support of the market is disinter ested, for the public good and has helped popularize it. Therefore the Mail Tribune protests the proposal to make a political football out of the public market and its super intendeucy tho means of paying political debts. To the present market master is due much of the mar ket's success, lie should be retained. His appointment was not a political one, but one of fitness., lie has made good and there is no excuse for his removal. BELONG BEHIND THE BARS. xvg-nfct MsA I IWUtml l y E DANIfrLS -. VV. The resolutions are all right as far as they go, but reso lutions never hurt crooks. The merchants should appoint a committee to (collect evidence against these swindlers, present it to the grand jury and instruct its attorney to assist in the prosecution. Merchants are vitally interested in driving such fakirs out of business for their own protection, and such a wide open trail as left by these particular scoundrels, such a manifest conspiracy to defraud, offers an ideal case to make an example of the perpetrators by placing tjiciu be hind the bars; HIGH GRADE ORE CAUSES RUSH TO NEVADA HILLS - HUM).
