There is a chance thnt merchants who may have on hand stamps of a larger denomination than those re quired for letter jmslngo will stand to loe ns such stamps will bo abso lutely worthless for other purposes than lcttor postage after the first of .Tanunry. The exchange of these stamps for parcels post stamps is forbidden by the postofficc depart ment. The parcels post bill carried with it an appropriation of $300,000 for vehicle hire necessary in delivering packages in fire delivery offices, but ns there are 1800 of these in the United States graduated in volume of business from Now York city, the largest, to the great number of smal ler ones, it necessarily follows that the lesser of the free delivery offices will have but little money to expend for vehicle hire. Med ford's allotment is $Ti0. No package will be received for mailing under the parcels xst regu lations which weighs more than cloven pounds, nnd in size they must not exceed 72 inches in both length and girth combined. 1'oHtmaster Italph Woodford has IksuccI the following Instructions to the public In regard to the new par cel post law which goes Into effect next month. 1 Parcels cannot be mailed In package, boxes; must bo brought to the post offlco or designated postal station. 2 Hates of postage on packages weighing not more than four ounces arc tho same as at present. Packages weighing more than four ounces tako now post pound rates which are arranged according to ills Unco carried. 3 DUtlnctlvo parcel post stamps must bo used, und packages mailed with ordinary postage stamps will bo treated as unmallable. The parcel post stamps will not be good for postage on other classes of mall matter. 4 Sender's name and address must appear on all packages. Post snaHtcrs are directed to treat as un mallable parcels presented for mail ing on which this luformatlou is not clearly shown. C Seeds, cuttings, bulbs, eclons, plants, etc., are mailable only at tho rato of ono cent for each two ounces Weight limit Is Increased to eleven pounds. Special parcel post stamps must bo used. C Printed matter, books, etc., are not mailable under new parcel post regulations, but must go as third class matter at present rate of ono cent for each two ounces or fraction, without regard to distance. Klnughertv for W.",000 against the Oregon-California Power com pany for the denlh of his sou, who was killed last spring tit Jacksonville by an elect rie current while in the employ of the company, is now occu pying the attention of the oireuit court. Young Klnughertv wns employed by tho electric company as a lineman nnd was at work on the top of u pole near Jacksonville when he came in contact with a live wire which in stantly killed him. CITY IS REAOY TO PAY COUNTY 0 NW BRIDG E "MM"i"yM METHODISTS PUN CHRISTMAS TREE A splendid Christmas tree program is being arranged by the superinten dent nnd teachers of the Methodist KpiscoMil church Sunday school. The exercises will be held in the church on Tuodny evening at 7U10 o'clock. Tho program will consist of recita tions and songs nnd there will he two trees. These trees will be beautifully lighted and decorated and there will be sacks of candy nnd nuts for every member of the Sunday school. In addition to these it is expected that small tokens of good cheer will be exchanged by this tree method be tween friends. If you are content plating making little gifts to friends or relatives the superintendent would liko ery much if you would make them over this Christians tree route. He believes if this method was car ried out it would make the evening one of more hearty good cheer. Each Sunday school class has been akcd to contribute something, either in wearing apparel, food or money to the wor of the city. These dona tions will be announced at the exer cises Tuesday evening. A few weeks ago the Medford bridge bonds wero sold nnd now Mayor Canon announces that tho cash from their sale has been re ceived and will bo deposited with tho county treasurer, who In turn will pay It to the contractor upon the pre sentation of county warrants Issued by he county court for tho construc tion of Mcdford'a now concrete bridge. Tho Pacific & Kastern railroad company has also deposited with tho county treasurer tho contribution of $2500 which It made toward tho con struction or the bridge.
