In part he spoke as follews: "When tho council of Medford es tablished tho public market I know that they would have appreciated a short sketch of tho successes and failures attained by public markets In different quarters ot the world. Tho university desires to become a vital factor in the life of the people and expects them to look to It to fur nish data and what advice its special ists can upon many occasions. Tho university has adopted tho slogan ot the University ot Wisconsin, which Is 'To extend the campus to the bor ders of tho state.' " Kvtenslon Work Klrby S. Millar, president of tho "Progressive Educational League of Oregon," was present at tho banquet and In a short toast endorsed the ex tension work that had been outlined as planned by Dr. Rebec and said that a fact that had grently Impressed him was tho restless energy of the peoplo of Oregon which If given lead ership by the scientific men and Bpeclallsts at tho University would accomplish magnificent results.
