to attend an art school in Paris.
Franco. Ho went there afler tho
great earthquake In San Francisco,
and attended an art school three
years, taking tho first prizo in his
'masterpiece, the "American Farm."
After three ycare stay iu Paris he
camo to San Francisco as assistant to
Arthur Putnam, tho sculptor. After
a year's work ho went to Xcw York
to enter the art contest, and only
worked four days to win tho first
prizo In competition with hundreds
bt contestants. Mr. Stackpolo Is
now engaged In making a bust of
Professor Hilgard, ono of the pro
fessors at Uerkclcy university, for
which ho received several thousand
dollars.
Mrs. Stackpolo Is also an nrtlst of
high standing and has mado many
masterpieces in her line. Sho de
signed tho costumes for tho four
hundred in tho famous play at Berk
eley a few months ago.
