There Is liut ono Ood who l father of all, ono Saviour of nil mankind, tho Lord Jesus; ono comforter and guide, thc Holy Spirit, No hotter encomium can ho passed upon tho churches than to say that each vies with the other In Its loyalty to Jesus Christ Tho I church buildings are thoFo erected In i tho early history of our city, with tho exception of tho Roman Catholic, Thcso buildings aro nil Inadequate I to tho present needs, and will In the! near future bo supplanted by ones suitable to tho work In hand. As an Institution the church ranks first In Importance In every town and com munity. It develops tho religious In life, Bnd keeps hope aflame In every breast; and without this there would be no foundation upon which to build nn enduring civilization. When It was deemed advisable to no longer hold meetings In tho Bchoolhouse, thoy moved to tho old town ball. In February. 1887. Dr. J. C. Baker, thoa state missionary for the Baptist denomination, held a revival meeting, which resulted In 30 additions to the church. Thus strengthened they prepared for nigre aggressive work. D. T. Lawton and S. L. Bennett woro ordained deacons and a houso of worship with a scat lug capacity of 300 was erected, at a cost of $4000. Although tho church had no regular pastor until June, 1S87, when Itov. G. O. Tnomaw took charge, thoy had since Kb organization maintained regular services, being supplied by Eldors Russell and Black. In Dccomber. 1887, tho first Bap tist Bible bcliool was organized and Iiiib noser missed a session to this day This church has enjoyed many sea sons of prosperity. In 1905 It be came necessary to enlarge the audi torium, as large numbers unable to pect to havo It ready for occupancy next fall.
