When the Panama eanal is opened in 19.1f and Jackson county gets its share of increased population where do you think the valuation will aoi Isn't it a fact that it should $?o up with a whoop until it touches one hun dred million long before the good roads bonds come duo' And what will hold tho people who visit this valley m 1910 and afterwards any more than good roads i And what about your taxes, when tho valuation goes up, and there are mord people here to help pay the county's expenses? Don't you know that your share will be less each year? We have good rock, suitable for road work, all over tho county. Why not use it? We have the men and the teams, without going out of the county. AVhy not put them to work? Tho count v court is pledged to use homo labor. One and one-half million dollars, turned loose in Jack son county during the next three years, ought to make things hum! Is there anybody who doesn't want to sec this money? One and one-half million dollars will build three hun dred to three hundred and fifty miles of good roads. Our farmers and working men living here can do this work, men and teams, and earn this mono'. Why not let them have it? Road building cost is almost all labor labor of men and teains. The money stays at home! The bond buyers' mouev will be naid out here, it will circulate here, it will not go out of the county. The million and a half will find its way back into the county treasury, directly or indirectly, in the shape of tax es, and we shall, after ail, hand the bond buyers back their own mono', after using it for twenty years, and keep our good roads. One and one-half pillion dollars will pay off a lot of rarin mortgages, uive the man with a team a chance, "Good roads make short hauls!" Three to three hun dred and fifty miles of main trunk lines will cover the whole county and connect every section with all of tho towns. The side lines will be built next, as we can afford them. Ask your team if they don't know the difference? Ev ery horse in Jackson county, if horses could vote, would go solidly in favor of good roads. What if you don't live right on the main truuk lines? Every mile of good road on the way brings the town so much nearer to your door and your road will come if you work for it and vote for good roads. Canadian parliament but always active in the interests of his Conservative part', Robert Laird Borden, although himself reported defeated, has earned his right to be leader of the government of Canada. When his power was at the lowest ebb, Borden plodded on heedless of crit icism which was heaped on him but justified now by the overwhelming victory he has gained. Sir Wilfrid Lauricr's tribute to his conqueror sums up Borden's character. "He is always a gentleman," said the jyiuerai leader, "which is more than can be said ot any other Conservative on the front bench." Borden is a native of Nova Scotia and by profession a lawyer. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1896 and became leader of the opposition in 1901. For the past year there has been talk of his retirement, Premier McBride of British Columbia being offered the leadership but declining twice. Although an Episcopal he has always had the backing of the Roman Catholic vote in the ex treme east of Canada and been eminently fair on all ques tions of religion.
