Southern Oregon nnd northern Cal ifornia mining congress will convene in this city tomorrow for a session of two days and will be attended by n large delegation of mining men from over the west. A special feature of the meeting is nn extensive mineral! display, representing ores from many mini's of southern Oregon nnd north ern California. An exhibit of gold nuggets from Josephine county placer mines rep resents many thousands of dollars in value and is a glistening display. The program includes technical pa pers by uiuiug engineers ami min ing geologists, and an address -will also be delivered by Professor .1. S. Diller of the United Stntes gelogieal survey, who is here to make surveys of the mining districts of Josephine county. Mining men began to arrive this morning nnd report that attendance- from their respcclivo districts will be large. Portland and Seattle will be represented" by wide awake men; Xcw Mexico by Professor Payette A. Jones, E. 31., L.' L. D. and Colorado by a number "of mining men recently from the Cripple Creek conntry. The congfoss will probably vote fa vorably on n proposition to annex to the American Mining congress. Medford church people were given a rare treat Sunday when they were permitted to listen to several splen did sermons by somo of the most prominent ministers in tho United States. Of these clergymen there were IJev. William Baird Craig, pus tor of the Christian church in New York City; Rev. A. M. Haggard, of Des Moines, la., nnd Itcv. G. Y. Grafton of Kansas City, Mo. Theso gentlemen preached to good sized uu diences in the various churches of the city nnd despite the extreme heat every uttcranco of these distin guished men was attentively .listened to. These reverend gentlemen were re turning cast from attendance nt u convention of the workers in the Christian churches of tha United States, recently held irt Portlnnd. They were accompanied by their wives, who, also are prominent work ers in Christian organization in the east. Hev. Craig preached in tho M. E. church Sunday evening nnd his clos ing remarks ujmwi universal brother hood were the most eloquent appeals to allProtestant churches for a uni versal Curist-liko religion and faith ever uttered from a Medford pulpit. Either next Sunday or tho follow ing one the cornerstone of the Sacred Heart hospital in this city is to be Inid with appropriate ceremonies at which .several uroiuinent men front all parts of the state will be pres ent. The suenkor of tho day will in all probability be Dr. Andrew C. Smith of Portland. A large delega tion of physicians from the differ- ' cut cities of the coast will be pres ent. The date has not been definitely set as yet owing, to the fact that it is not kitown when somo of the men asked to bo here one that occas- ion can 'attend.
