Howlett.) Last Saturday night our city dads granted to V. W. Harmon and asso ciates a franchise for an electric light and power plant for a period ol 50 years. The terms are that the aforesaid parties are to have 'M day to consider the proposition and must begin to solicit patronage at th.it time and as soon as 500 sixteen enn dle power lights nre subscribed thej must begin construction within lib days thereafter and be ready to sup ply electricity within six month' There are home of the old croaker that are complaining about giving away such a valuable franchise but they don't stop to think what a ben efit it will be to the town. And foi men to invest the amount of capital that is necessary to put in such n plant as that, especially in a town that in an election where the iie3 tion at issue was saloon or no sa loon, could only find 511 voters, and several of them were transient, show a lack of tho progressivencss of some of the Mcdford boosters. They have also secured the services of Civil En gineer Tee and his helpers to sot the stakes for grading the streets and have actually commenced to gradi them in the purl of town next to the depot, something greatly needed.
