MEDFOKD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON, FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 1911. 5 n ANDY UPS A HiS ll'F PEACE Ironmaster, Who Has Given Millions to Further International Peace am tlte ' Disarmament 'of Nations Thinks Song Will A'iI. NEW YOP1C, Jnn. 20. -Amir Jw Carnegie hns' found a "hymn of in terim tionnl peace.'' It was written by Prof. George Ilutitinton, llbrnr iim hi Carlcton college, Northfielcl IMiim., until lie was retired in 1900 on a pension grunted by the Carnegie foundation for the advancement of teaching. The hymn, which is in tho meter of "America" and "God Save the King,'' has pleased Mr. Canitgie so much that he has distributed J 00 cop ies among his friends and he hns sent 1500 copies to members of peuco societies throughout the United States. He thinks it will grcntly nid tho cause of international pence, nnd will try to ninke the song popular with the people. Tho new song follows. Hymn of Peace. Two empires by tlltf Sen, Two nations great and free, One anthem raise. Oni, race of ancient fame, One tongue, one faith we claim One Clod, whose glorious nnmo We love and praise. What deeds our fathers wrought, What battles wc hnvo fought Let fame record. Now, vengeful pnssion, cense, Come victories of peace; Nor hate, nor pride's caprico Unshcath the sword. Though deep the soa and wide, 'Twixt real and real, its tide Binds strand to strand, So be the gulf between, Gray coasts and islands green With bonds of peace serene And friendship spanned. w Now, may the God above Guard tho dear land wo love, Both east and west. Let love moro fervent glow, As peaceful nges go, And strength yet stronger grow, Blessing and blest. MEDFORD MARKETS. (Prices paid by Medford merchants) Potatoes $1.151.35 per cwt. Cabbage lV&(rtlo.
