Cardinal Loruo, Catholic primate of Ireland, in a statement today upheld the aims and purposes of tho Roman Cathol icism by declaring that tho Catholic church, becauso of Its fundamental teachings, is to bo America's salva tion. "Because its cardinal principles aro moro vitally Christian than those of other creeds," said Cardinal Loguo "Catholicism will bo America's sal vation. Tho church strikes at tho very root of things tending to bring about national .decoy." Cardinal Loguo Indicated what ho believed to bo America's besetting sins, nnd among these he Included divorce and graft by public officials. "Against such evil Influences," said the cardinal, "he Catholic church, has always waged lmplacablo war fare. Catholicism represents en ap plication of tho deepest Christian principles." Cardinal sounded a note of warn ing for Portugal. "Portugal should take Franco's lesson to heart," said tho cardinal. "The warfare on the Catholic church In Portugal Is merely an attempt to steal church property on which tho state has absolutely no claim. Tho confiscation of such property results In the funds going Into tho pockets of public officials Instead of the cof fers of tho state. "I believe the time Is coming when . America will bo classed as a Catho lic nation. Everywhere 1 see evi dences of the tremendous growth of church Influence and growth In mem bership.
