Ho whs on his way to Hrownsboro on u bus iness venture. Mr. and Mrs. William Brown of this place, who have been visiting relatives and friendo in Portland, re turned last Tuesday night on the P. & E., but your Eaglo Point cor respondent did not learn of it until after ho had written and posted his last letter. Their uncle, William Brown, enmo homo with them. Mr. Brown has spent several months here tho past year. Ho is a brother of our townsman, George Brown. S. B. Holmes and wifo have re turned from an extended visit to friends and relatives in British Co lumbia. Dr. Bonner and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Bonner, and her son, Al, called for dinner Thursday on their way to Medford. Mrs. Bonner was on her way to her homo in Nevada. She had been visiting her brother-in-law and family and his sister, Mrs. Adams, near Derby. Al Cox of Ashland, a representa tive of a tea and coffee houso of that place, called here Thursday on his way to tho neighborhood of Dorby to look at n tract of land in that section, but when ho reached hero decided that ho would not have time to make the trip and get back to Ashland in time to meet his en gagement there. Mr. Thomson, formerly of Yankee creek, but now of Lake Creek; James Culbertson and son of Lake Creek, wore all hero Thursday. They report everything in their section in a pros perous condition. The two men, Messrs. Martin and Goodwin, nro rushing tho pipe to the front as fast as they can, and the pipe layers are putting it in plnco as fast as thay can: There were two men came with teams, started to haul pipe for them, but only made ono trip. They found that there was Gomo work connected with hauling pipo, especially over some of the roads. J. W. Grovcr and family have been attending Iho Baptist convention in' Medford for the last few days. They xpcct to return today (Saturday). F. L. The Shepard Bros, of Ashland were with us tho last of last week and up to about the middle of this, canvassing for tho Shepard piano houso of Ashlnnd, so you see that' Eagle Point is attracting tho atten tion of tho musical clement of busi ness men. Mrs. K. Ij. Sandy, a traveling wo man, was horo trying to arrange to secure n house to exhibit lior moving picture show, but did not succeed, as Mr. Daley, who owns tho dance hall, was siwav from home, and she failed in securing tho church building for thnt purpose. The report was going the rounds tho other day that Mrs. T. E. Nich ols had lost a handbag containing $S5 in money and $10,000 in notes nnd securities, but when she returned homo she found the bag hanging in its place and that she had made a mistake and taken the wrong bag, one that did not have the cash and notes in it. Mr. Vaughn of Peyton wns with us last Friday night and reported that Mr. Paine, who bought tho Al fred Gordon place, on Itogue river, came near getting killed tho other day. Ho was riding a wild horse and ho reared up so straight that he thought that ho would fall over, so leaned forward and the belt of his chops caught on the horn of the sad dle, nnd as the horse came down he commenced to buck, and ho fastened to tho horn of the saddle, and, being a heavy man, his weight hnnging there caused the saddle to turn and he fast to it so that he could not clear himself from tho horse, nnd he kicking and bucking all the time. There was a crowd of men there, but tho animal was so scared that he could see nothin'g, but finally his belt broke and he came loose and the horse dashed through tho crowd and ran about a mile before ho wns caught. Fortunately for Mr. Paine, he got off unhurt, but he said that he could see tho horse's shoes as he would kick nnd strike at his head He has come to the conclusion thnt he docs not have riding enough to justify his riding such n horse. Mr. Ditsworth was among the call ers last Friday night, over after a load of box material to pack his ber ries and. fruit in, nnd some cherries to take to Fort Klaniath. Ho will finish out his load at home. Jess Frodenburg came out from Butto Falls last Friday after a load of machinery for the Butte Falls saw mill, no says that this load will fin ish up hauling the machinery for that mill, except a new water wheel that will bo put in later.
