CONSTANTINOPLE, April 26.
Government officials ndmitted today
that the Albanian revolt has assuin
d proportions of a civil war and will

Sixty thousand Albanian rebels
and government troops are waging
war against each other in me nonn

DEPOT CONTRACT
Local Lumber Company Will Furnish
150,000 Feet of Lumber to be Used
In Construction of Medford and
Grants Pass Depots.
The Woods Lumber company has
secured tho contract to turnbh the
lumber for tho now depot now under
construction at Medford and Grants
i'ass. '
Tho contracts Involve tho delivery
of some 150,000 feet of lumber to
bo used In tho construction of the de
pots, and will bo furnished from tho
Clendalo mills of tho Woods Lumber
company.
That a Medford lumber company
should secure thb Important contract
over competitors all over tho western
and southern part of the state Is a
feather In tho cap of tho Woods Lum-;
ber company and shows tho enterprise
and ability ot Its managers.
Ashland Chicken Thieves Abroad.
Owners ot flno poultry bad better
bo on tho lookout, as the chicken
stealer Is abroad In the land, cays the
'Tidings. Within tho past few days no
less 'than four families, residing in
contiguous territory, bounded by Lau
rel and Manzanlta strcots, havo suf
fered by these depredations. The
thieves, moreover, tako tho finest
specimens, Rhode Island Reds and
other prize fowls being their spec

Mr. Lang, senior member of tho
wholesale provision house of Lang &
Co., Portland, is in the city. With
him is Mr. Tico, formerly connected

Big Fire In Oakland.
OAKLAND, Cal., April 25. An in
vestigation is under way today to as
certain tho origin of a fire which
destroved the Hall Warehouse Com
pany's warehouse and nine cottages
in the same block yesterday. The
damage is estimated at $125,000,
partly covered by insurance.

ter ransacking tho residence of J.
Webster Ilancor, on Eighteenth ave
nue, at midnight, and spcuring $10 in
money and some jewelry, I'd well
dressed masked burglar entered tho
sleeping apartment of Hahcox and
his wife, turned on the light, and,
with revolver in hand, chatted for 20
minutes.
Sentincr himself in a comfortable
chair, the gentleman burglar said : ' I
don't figure that I am in much dan
ger of arrest, for, as you see, I am
pretty well dressed and the fly cops
will never be able to catch me. I
was a bookkeeper in San Francisco
until I went wrong.
"Is this 75 cents all you have?"
he asked, counting some change that
he drew from Hancox'' trousers.
"It is." replied tho 'victim. Turn
ing the garments upside down, the
thief saw a $10 gold pieco roll to the
floor. "I am sorry you lied to me,"
said the gentleman' of tho mask.
After chatting for some minutes
more, ho caid: "I regret that I have
been compelled to thus intrude upon
tho sanctity of your bedroom, but it
was necessary for me to secure the
money I need. But inasmuch as you

dangerously near. Mr. Newton
throught his team and surrey back
yesterday and reported that in all
'probability tho thief would be appre-

known to tho authorities, having op
erated in this part of tho country on
several previous occasions.

Methodist ministers of Cincinnati to
day started what they intend shall
bo a national movement to prevent
tho Jeffries-Johnsou fight at Emery
ville, Cnl., ou July 4.
Tho plan of campaign outlined by
tho ministers iucludes an appeal to
every Methodist church in the nation
to exorcise its influence to prevent
the battle.
A resolution adopted by n mass
meeting of tho local Methodist
clorgymen contains tho following
paragraph :
"That tho permission of this fight
can be regarded as nothing less than
a national disgraco and n calamity to
tho moral life of our people ; that tho
Cincinnati Methodist Ministers' asso
ciation protests against tho permis
sion of tho fight and that wo invito
tho ministers of all denominations in
tho stato of Ohio and of ovory othor
state and territory in tho Union to
stir their pcoplo to unito in protest
to tho governor of California against
tho permission of this fight."
