Just completed by the Swift Interests, began killing livestock loday, From now on, It will enlarge Its operations until all departments and allied In dustries are under way. It Is ex pected to be two or three months before the big $2,000,000 plant is In full operation, Tho completion ot this great packing house la a big boost for tho producers of livestock not only In this state, but through out tho northwest. Tho killing de partment Is prepared to handle about COO cattle a day as a starter and has a capacity of 1000 hogs and sheep. The interest oLown In livestock pro duction throughout tho bis territory tributary to this market will largely determine tho magnitude of opera tions by the now plant. Hogs reach ed $11.10 during the past week. "With Judge Lionel R. Webster la charge, headquarters have boon open ed in Portland by tho Oregon Good Roads association and it Is planned to wago an active campaign constant ly for good roads throughout the state. Funds to carry on tho work have been subscribed and not only will good roads legislation be father ed, but demonstrations of approved road making will be carried on, and It is hoped to secure the appointment ot a highway commission.
