On December 2 S Henry Adams, a traveling salesman ot the Los An geles firm, checked a truck contain ing nearly $15,000 worth of Jowolry, at the Arcade station In Los Angeles. While his back waa turned, the thief substituted a checked suitcase for the trunk, and switched the brass bag gage checks. Adams picked up the check for the suitcase and when he arrived in San Francisco presented it at tho baggage room. Then ho re ceived tho suitcase. In the meantime his trunk was checked to San Jose by the clover pair and there looted at their leisure. Ihey took only the most valuable gems, leaving $3000 worth of cheap Jewelry. Adams found a teamster's bat and clothfng in tho suitcase. This is re garded by the police as a "blind," and the yaret not looking for a team ster In connection with tho robbery. MUCH OF INTEREST ON POULTRY DAY AT 0. A. C. There will be a poultry day at ilia O. A. C. The last day of fnrmers' week, Friday, February 18, will be largely a poultry day. During the day there will be a poultry show in the new college barn, and in tha evening there will be illustratedpoul try talks in the armory by several speakers. Specimens of different breeds and varieties of fowls will be on exhibi tion at the show. They will be 'lie best to be found in the state, so fur as winnings in the showroom go. They will come from the best-known breeders in Oregon. Some of the collego stock will be exhibited to il lustrate different types of layers, and comparisons will be made of the hen with the high egg record with that of the poor record, and oppor tunity will bo given for experts to pick out the 200-egg hen and the 20 egg hen in the flock. The result jf different crosses will be shown. Poultry students will engage in judging contest, prizes being offered for best work. Tncubators will be hatching, chicks. Day-old chicks will be shown in brooders of. different kinds. One kind will be heated by a coal oil lamp, another by electricity, nunther by n hot water jng, showing Unit there are different ways of earing for chicks artificially.
