Married at Ashland, Sopt. 25th Mr. Louis Prince of Bouldor City, Colo., and Miss Cora Sinitu daughter of G. W. Smith of Ashland, by Row G. J. Webster. Mrs. Mary E. Jacobs died at the family homo at Talent on the 2ith ult., at 9 p. m. after a lingering s-idkness of disease of liver and kidneys, She was born in Iowa, was 42 years old and lived a consistent Christian life, being a member Of the M. E. church. Ira Wakefield left for east of the mountains Wednesday in answer to a call from the people of that section to speak at different points for tho Peo ples party. He will be absent uutil about the 20th inst., when he will take tho stump in the Willamette valley, tho state centr.il committeo having mapped out a line of action for him. A. p. Magrudor, treasurer of the Fair Association, had his leg broken and his ankle dislocated while playfully scufiling with a boy about his own age, on the" fair grounds last week. Elder David Browor has improved the Gary place so that it is doubled in value. He has also bought of Helms and Amerraan 12 acres adjoining, at $45 per aero. Clint Cary's folks havo returned to Talent from Douglas countv, and havo purchased 15 acres of tho Colver ranch, adjoining the McTavish place at $ 10 per acre. Mrs. Peter Applegato and childrin, who have been visiting M r. Applegato's sister at Ashland, are back at their home at Central Point. J. W. Lawton, of Griffin Creek, as secretary and treasurer of tho Farmers' Club of Jackson county, has been hav ing some printing done at this. office. They lost no time in hieing them selves hitherward, landing at their home at Tolo one day last week. Last Friday at tho fair we had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Seott Griffin, nnd found her to be, as was expect -d, a lady of refinement nnd beauty. Tho Mail wishes them every happiness. Commited Suicide. S. E. Day, tho 1.1 year old son of ex- County Judge Silas J. Day, of Jack sonville, committed suicide by blowing tho top of his head off with an old musket Friday morning, Sept. GOth. The boy had been attending school, and Thursday played truant and went to the Central Point fair, nis father had promised to allow him to attend the fair Friday with tho family, but learning of his running away tho day before, thought to punish him by com pelling the boy to remain homo. The boj then wantvd to go hunting, but his mother forbade, and gave him work to do nt home. Sopn tho boy was missed, and search revealed him at tho barn near tho houso dead. He had taken an old-fashioned musket, placed tho muzzle near his head , nnd, discharging tlie weapon with his foot, literally shot his head off. Fublio Notice.
