For early fruit the Rogue River Valley takes the lead, generally speaking; but to bo more definite Medford's vicinity is a little ahead of the rest of the vallev and to Cime down to the point of the mat ter, Mr. S. A, Sutter, of Medford, caps the climax for early aad lus cious fruit, especially strawberries. About two weeks ago he exhibited some fine ripe ones which were as early as California; but Monday morning Mr. Sutter brought to our table a generous box cf the rincst strawberries we have seen in the market this year. They were culled from plants set out late last fall. The fruit from the older plants will be in the market in a few days. The late frosts did no dnmngc to strawberries or cherries. Jvotico. That was all right Bat ha misjjd the train, so he says, to return to Med ford in the evonig. At about dusk he started to foot it along th J niilro.U to this city ;iud when about a mile out, he met a couple of m si, so h i bays, whom he salut.-d and for ivspoasj one of them tired a rock at him which landed just abov his left eye. leaving an u-'iy ga;h. Tuis filial him, sj lu sav, but ho rocovorjd safilcijt'y to hurl a rock at his assailants, which he thinks took effoct. At this juncture he was again struck, thistiao oa liie ear, by one of the tramp's fists, which completely knocked him out. When be came to he dUcoverc-d that he hud b.cc robbsi of 7o ou'j iu cash and two cigars. However, hj had tlo.OJ in his inside pocket which was- not touched; good of the robbers, wasn't it? Mr. Carr managed to reach this ci'y and reported thu csaj to the niht watch who rport.-d it to the inarshul and they with Tom Harris" h-.-lp scoured the country but uary liiga paymn was to bj fouad. Mitrshul Youngs and XightwaU-h Hart walked fro ju here to Jacksonville Suturday moruir.g search i- g for the spot where the scuCIj occured, but it was invisi ble. T. Harris drove to Central Point and Jacksonville, thinking he might sight tho "robbers" but it was useless. We gathered thess facts from Mar shal Youags, but ho impressed upon us hi wouldn't vouch for Carr's au thenticity; hs rather inclined to think that tha delegate hud suffered from tho effects of tho convention or Irom a severe shock of sunstroke; but hi that as it may we know that tramps are too numerous in this vicinity and although the marshal is ever on the alert and makes them movo on from here. They should bi dealt with more severely when found lurking about private premises. . Strength aud Health. If you are not feetfng strong and healthy, try Eiectric Bitters.
