Laraway, Jeweler and Optician CODLING MOTH DE VELOPMENT IS SLOW HO OD RIVER (By Leroy Childs) The cool nights during the past two weeks have greatly hindered the (level opment of the codling moths and egg ! laying has not occurred extensively up to the present time. The warm weather we are now having should stimulate i egg deposition, making it necessary that we have poison on the fruit not later than June 20 to 22. Owing to the fact that the fruit ia growing very rap idly at this time of year best result | will be obtained by timing the applica tion so that it is on the fruit only a few days before the worms hatch; oth erwise the poisoned coating, being una ble to stretch with Ihe growth of the fruit, breaks apart and offers an open ing for the worms. Growers with a large acreage to spray should so time their work that it be largely finished by the 22nd as worms will be hatched at that time. If the present hot spell continues it will hardly he safe to apply lime-sul- [ phur. We have sprayed a block of I trees thia week to determine the effect of lime sulphur under these conditions. 1 The results are as yel not available but the experiment station advises growers I that they lesrn of the action of the fungicide when applied at this time of the year before they make a general I application o f lime-sulphur. •H - H - l- l- l- H - l- l l I I I I I I I I I I I j $ b y U nd erw ood A U nderw ood.
