TAX LEW IS 1-2 MILL PORTLAND-YAKIMA FARMERS’ WEEK LESS THAN LAST YEAR ROAD FINDS FAVOR I In order to bring together the greet e d number o f intereiling and helpful thing* offered by Farm er*’ Week at the Oregon Agricultural College, Janu ary, 3 to 8. the work of auhjecta m oil cloaely related baa been collected into one or more day*, ao that thoae who are unable to attend during the entire week may receive the maximum o f ad vantage* by attendance on thoae days in which their apecielitee w ill be con sidered. A bird’a-eya view o f thia grouping on special days is afforded by the following outline: On Monday the leading subjects will be horticulture, road builoing and drainage. The work in horticulture j will be chiefly instructional through lectures, demonstrations and inspec tion, that o f road building by confer encea, and that of drainage by confer ence and by eesaiona o f the state drain age asaoociation On Tuesday these same three sub jects will be still further considered, and consideration o f public markets and dairying w ill be added. Public markets will be treated in conference, with experienced market men and v e g etable growers in charge. The dairy work will be furthered by a meeting of the Oregon Jersey Cattle club, the Oregon Holstein association, the Ore gon Guernsey club, and the Dairy Breeders' association. Another feat ure of interest on Tuesday will be the meeting of ministers and religious workers to consider efficiency in the many departments o f rural church and social work. On Wednesday the State Dairymen’s association w ill hold its annual meet ing, and the work o f the drainage asso ciation will be brought to a close. County fair officials will meet to con sider methods o f most profitably con ducting county and district fairs. The agronomists will also meet and consid er field crops and seed growers' prob lems, with the corn show open during the entire day. Poultry exhibits in which the U. S. Educationist Poultry exhibit o f the Panama exposition will be shown, will also receive special em-1 phaais on this day. The conference of ministers and religious workers w ill be concluded. On Thursday the State Dairymen’s association w ill continue in session and there will be a conference o f Oregon Butter and Cheeae Makers. The pota to growers and Pure-Bred Breeders' association w ill also hold their confer- On Friday the work of the State Dairymen’s association will be closed and also that o f the Oregon Butter and Cheese Makers. This will be one o f the busiest days o f the week, on hich the Oregon Horse Breeders’ associa tion will meet, the Pork Products show will be held, the Boys’ and G irls’ Judg ing contest w ill be begun, federation o f the State Grange and State Far mers’ Union w ill be (.„„»idered, rural credits plans outlined, with the annual horse show concluding the exercises in the evening. On Saturday the Bovs’ and G irls’ judging contest w ill be concluded, a special program will be presented for boys and girls, marketing legislation will he discussed, and there w ill be a land clearing demonstration. Out o f thia list o f useful activities those contemplating attendance during all or part of the time will doubtless be able to map out a satisfactory pro gram o f attendance.
