Washington, D. C. — General A lv a rado Obregon for President of Mexico. This is the object o f the Wilson ad ministration’s latest Mexican policy, according to the admission Monday of a member o f the cabinet, who has been chiefly responsible for the President’s plan to pacify M exico since the resig nation o f W. J. Bryan. Obregon, now the must conspicuous general o f the Carranzita forces, is bursting with ambition to attain the presidency o f the Mexican republic and recognition by the United States and other powers. He is on the verge o f a break with First Chief Carranza and the inauguration o f a counter rev olution in which he would probably be joined by V illa and Zapata. Obregon is looked on with high fa v or by the Wilson administration, which hopes to avoid the necessity of recognizing Carranza as head o f the de facto government. The adminis tration believes that Obregon is the only leader strong enough to set up a government and maintain it. Confidential reports that Obregon probably w ill desert Carranza and carry the greater part o f the first ch ief’s army with him reached Wash ington a fe w day ago. The adminis tration was also informed that Car ranza’s apparent success in extending his m ilitary authority íb almost entire ly to the work o f Obregon. As a result o f this intelligence, the administration decided to proceed slowly and await developments. Sec retary o f State Lansing has transmit ted the reports o f Obregon’s plans to the Pan-American conference in New York. The envoys o f the Latin- American republics agreed with Mr. Lansing that it would be wise to post pone action pending the disclosure of Obregon's intentions. For that reason the conference an nounced the m eeting three weeks hence, at which it w ill endeavour to decide which faction is worthy of rec ognition. I f Obregon deserts Car ranza and develops a strong follow ing he w ill be recognized by the adminis tration as the de facto president of Mexico, according to the present plans. Fall Wool Clip Selling at Good Prices Portland — Fall shearing is under way in Southern Oregon and lambs' wool is now coming on the market. Sales are being made in a small way at 240/ 25 cents. Only a limited amount o f business is passing in spring clip, although a con siderable quantity o f it remains in first hands. Fully 1,500,000 pounds of unsold wool are still in Portland ware houses, while scattered lots remain in grow ers’ hands at Condon, Heppner, Baker and other points in Eastern Ore gon. There is also some unsold wool at Ellensburg and elsewhere in East ern Washington. Am ong the B a le s this week were fair-sized lots o f Eastern Oregon medium wools, which brought around 25 cents. For these same wools grow ers last spring turned down offers as high a s 28 cents. Dealers are not keen to buy at the present tim e and are taking on nothing on speculation. Trading in territory wools in the Eastern markets in the past week has been slower, although some business is reported for small lots, both of fine original sack wools and for medium lots, Soda Springs three-eighths com manding 33 to 34 cents in the grease, or about 6k cents clean basis. Some fine medium Utah wool brought 66#67 cents. The choicest fine and fine me dium wools are selling in a limited way at 68 to 70 and some lots are said to have brought a trifle more. A mod erate demand for half-blood Montana clips in the original bags at 30(0,31 rents, or about 70 cents, clean basis, is reported. Farmers More Disposed to Sell.
