D ayton, O.— The W rig h t B rothers,
aeroplane inventors and aviators, are
highly gratified w ith th e re su lts of
th e ir recen t experim ents w ith th eir
new g lid er a t K itty H aw k, N. C.
They believe th a t th e experim ents
conducted th ere w ill have a vital in
fluence on the fu tu re of aerial tra n s

The clim ax o f the plodding, pains

W rig h t caused his m otorless biplane
to hover over a spot only 15 fe e t in
d iam eter fo r m ore than 10 m inutes.
“ O ur experim ents have been very
sa tisfa c to ry ,’’ said O rville W right,
discussing his flight.
"T h e y have
been fa r beyond my expectations. I
w ent to K itty H aw k sim ply to carry
out some ideas I had w orked o u t here
a t home concerning glid in g m achines.
As a m a tte r o f fa c t I w as not very
o p tim istic about extensive success.
B ut a fte r I had rearran g ed a num ber
o f details, I succeeded in keeping the
c ra f t in the a ir fo r such a long period.
O ur success is due to the fa c t th a t the
c ra ft is exceptionally efficient. By
efficientncy, I m ean th a t all its parts
are balanced so as to m ake a p erfect
liftin g vehicle.
“ W hen an a v iato r speaks o f effi
ciency, he m eans th e cap ab ility o f an
aeroplane to fly w ith the le a st am ount
o f m otive power. He has in m ind the
soaring q u alities o f an aeropane. I
can tru ly say th a t our c ra f t is enor
mously efficient.
I don’t m ean to
claim th a t we can fly w ith o u t power,
but I do meBn th a t our m achine can
fly w ith less pow er than any other.
“ U nder certain conditions I am cer
ta in th a t the ideas we have developed
d u ring the p a st few w eeks would en
able us to build a m achine which
would fly even w ith less horse power.
I know th a t we could fly fo r an hour
w ithout pow er, given proper atm os
pheric conditions, and I see no reason
why we connot fly fo r 10 hours if we
have flown one m inute. I t is sim ply
a question of th e tim e, th e place, th e
wind and the m achine.
“ In o rd er to m ake ex ten siv e pow er
less flights, how ever, th e c ra f t would
have to be b u ilt m ore strongly. A t
th e p resen t tim e such construction is
now economical. O wing to the s ta te
of th e skill of aviators it would cost
them too much to pay fo r the freq u en t
breakage of an expensive c ra ft.
“ B u t I don’t w ish to give the im
pression th a t I think the p resen t m a
chine in use is defective.
I t is my
opinion th a t our la te type o f biplanes
is about as good as any c ra f t w ill be
for m any y ears to come.
I t flies
w ith less pow er than any c ra f t in ex
isten ce; it is stro n g and durable, and
it is susceptible o f alm ost p e rfe c t con
trol. W hen some of th e th in g s I have
discovered here a re incorporated in
the c ra ft, I don’t think i t w ill easily
be surpassed.
“ I d o think th a t th e fu tu re o f the
aeroplane depends to a certain e x te n t
upon the fu tu re of th e m otor. N ot
th a t I w an t to say th a t the present
m otor is lacking in any serious m an
ner. I th in k th e m otor of the present
is ju s t as p e rfe c t as the m achine.
B ut I do believe th a t, w ith n atu ral

liv er m ore pow er and w ill be b u ilt
more co m pactly.’’

Cure Your
Dandruff
Why? Decause it is annoying,
untidy. And mostly, because
it almost invariably leads to
baldness. Cure it, and save
your hair. Get more, too, at
the same time. All easily done
with Ayer’s Hair Vigor, new
improved formula. Stop this
formation of dandruff!

The new Ayer’s Hair Vigor will certainly
do this work, because, first of all, it de
stroys the germs which are the original
cause of dandruff. Having given this aid,
nature completes the cure. The scalp is
restored to a perfectly healthy condition.

Strong H ealthy Women
■
If a woman is strong and healthy in a womanly way, moth
erhood means to her but little suffering. The trouble lies
in the fact that the many women suffer from weakness and
disease of the distinctly feminine organism and are unfitted
‘for motherhood. This can be remedied.
