LOCAL NEWS v Mr. and Mrs. Wm.- Graham came in from the Bell ranch last Sunday to spend the day with ', ye editor and ' family.' ' The irrlgon Irrigator for this week contains a splendid endorsement for Chas. R. McCalley, the violinist, who will give a recital in Artisan hall to morrow evening. Don't fail to hear him as you will miss a rare treat. .CHARLES R. MCCALLEY Taken from the East Oregonli-.n, Mar. 14 C. R. McCalley, the talented and popular violinist who has entertained numerous Pendleton audiences this season, is now intending to devote his time to musical work, and to this end is arranging for a series of - entertain ments to be given in the various towns aid cities of eastern Oregon. He has a'ready received invitations to appear upon programs in several places, but thus far has not accepted any except ing those from a local source. It is now his flan to extend the field of his work and give violin recitals in differ ent towns under the auspices of church es, lodges or other local organizst'.ons. Mr. McCalley is a violinist of rare natural ability and he has a touch, tone and individuality of expression that is soul-inspiring. Those who hear him play feel that they are listening to a genius rather than to a drilled artist He is not a long-haired, dreaming musician, but in appearance and man ner is as pleasing as his playing. Mr. McCalley does not pose as an inter preter of the highest grade, of clastics the kind that makes the average listen er feel bored and wish he had' remain ed at home but instead is a musician who strives to please his audience and does so, as has been fully demonstrat ed in Pendleton this winter. Since he has been here he has assisted in many of the local lodge and church enter tainments and was also on the program at the recent Commercial association entertainment, where he made a hit with a solo and some characteristic work which he gave in response to an encore, Before coming west six years ago be IT 2SPRING GOODS 0 H r We are receiving our line of Spring Goods, consisting of Lawns, White Goods, Lace, Embroid ery, Ribbons, also a line of Ladies White waists.
