Science is contemplating the substi

those of men when the latter have worn
cut the heart which Nature gave them.
The life and conduct of some men is
such as to make it certainty that
they will not be losers by the proposed
change, If the plan works successfully
"chicken-hearted" prize fighters may
liave an opportunity to change that
useful organ of their physical system.

- Idleness never helps you into busi
ness, my son; when you see a number
yof boys idling away their moments on
a street corner, never attempting to do
a. little work and earn something for
themselves, you ma guess at once
that such boys when grown up will be
the ones who wear the red noses and
swollen eyes. They have no ambition
in life higher than the life of a "tin
horn" sport and will never make a
shining light in the business affairs of
life. , They are shiftless and lazy and
reach their graves without a mark to
show that the world is any better off
for them having lived in it. Be up
and doing, my boy, and in your old
days when life is declining you can
live at ease, while the youthful idler
will find only privation and cool recep
tions from the world.

IONE PROCLAIMED
Attorney W. P. Myers and Dr.
Boals drove (?) up to Heppner
Wednesday. When within seven
miles of that city the axle of the buggy
broke. The doctor counted the ties
to Heppner, while W. P. being the
"light man" rode a 2x4 into the city.
It rained all day Wednesday
A doctor and a lawyer ought to
form a combination that would cause
most any old cloud to weep.
The remains of two of Mrs Andrew
Cochran's children and one of E. T.
Perkins' children were taken from the
old Lexington cemetery Wednesday
and interred in the lone cemetery un
der the supervision of our undertaker,
Mr. Cochran. The old cemetery at
Lexington is within the city limits, and
will be moved by the city unless friend's
of those burled there move them of
their own accord.
The Echo News has packed up
their plant, bag and baggage and mov

Now the Echo people are looking for
a niwspaper man, and are beginning
to think they are up against it. . But
perhaps when they get another newspa
per they will know how to treat It.
However, the Echo people will have to
look a long time before they find an
other Willis, or anyone else that can
fill the vacancy he has left in that
town.
Hunting someone to watch Echo
grow, perhaps.
