DEATH NOTICES
Wednesday, Aug. 3
10:34 a.m. — A resident on East Ridgeway Av-
enue, Hermiston, asked to speak to an officer
because it was getting harder and harder to pull
in and out of her driveway with all the trailers
on the street.
11:57 a.m. — Emergency agencies responded
to Highway 730, Umatilla, on a report of a car
accident involving a vehicle that struck a semi
and caught fire.
3:47 p.m. — Morrow County Sheriff’s Office re-
ceived a report from Heppner about strangula-
tion. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
10:38 p.m. — A caller reported a person on
Steagall Road, Irrigon, took the “pilot” signs off
his Ford Expedition. The caller identified a sus-
pect. Morrow County Sheriff’s Office is investi-
gating.
Thursday, Aug. 4
6:52 a.m. — Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies
responded to North First Street, Hermiston, on a
report of an assault.
9:59 a.m. — Hermiston police received a report
of a vehicle theft on Southeast Second Street.
1:45 p.m. — A resident on Southwest Utah
Street, Irrigon, reported a male who was not
supposed to be there was in her house. Morrow
County sheriff’s deputies and the ambulance
from Irrigon responded and took the person to
Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.
3:36 p.m. — Boardman fire and police re-
sponded to Harvest Town Foods, 220 S. Main
St., Boardman, on a report of a vehicle that hit
a female while she was walking and caused
pain in her hip. An ambulance took her to Good
Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.
5:55 p.m. — A caller on Steagall Road, Irrigon,
reported he and another male were fighting
and the other male was trying to leave in a ve-
hicle.
6:29 p.m. — A resident on Gilmore Street, Hep-
pner, reported his son has been bullied lately
and this day someone punched him in the
head. The father said he did not want to pursue
charges but wanted to “make a trail of events” in
case this escalates.
11:52 p.m. — Hermiston police initiated activity
at East Catherine Avenue for violating the city’s
curfew.
Friday, Aug. 5
8:17 a.m. — A caller on Columbia Avenue
Northwest, Boardman, reported her daughter’s
father was causing a disturbance. Police re-
sponded and separated the parties.
11:09 a.m. — A resident on Olson Road, Board-
man, reported the theft of a number of items
from outside the house and tracks around the
property. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office is
investigating.
11:55 a.m. — A caller on Southeast Court Ave-
nue, Heppner, reported there was a skunk in an
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife trap.
12:17 p.m. — Emergency services in Boardman
responded to Columbia Avenue Northeast and
Laurel Lane for a two-vehicle crash. An ambu-
lance took one patient to Good Shepherd Med-
ical Center, Hermiston. Police cited one man for
driving while suspended and failure to obey a
traffic control device.
2:25 p.m. — A resident on Little Butter Creek
Road, Echo, reported the theft of a gun within
the last six weeks.
9:26 p.m. — A resident on Faler Road, Board-
man, reported his neighbor tried to hit him in
his vehicle and get his dog to attack him. This is
an ongoing issue, the person said. The Morrow
County Sheriff’s Office started an investigation.
11:10 p.m. — A caller reported someone may
have been stealing items from an antique store
on Highway 730, Irrigon.
Saturday, Aug 6
1:49 a.m. — Hermiston police received a re-
port of a burglary on the 900 block of East Main
Street.
2:27 a.m. — A caller reported a utility pole was
down and power was out in several homes at
Southwest Fourth Street and Nevada Avenue,
Irrigon. The caller said she crashed after swerv-
ing to miss a deer. Several emergency services
responded. Morrow County Sheriff’s Office cited
the driver for careless driving with an accident
and failing to drive within a lane.
9:20 p.m. — A caller reported two people were
fighting behind the school near the Morrow
County Fair Grounds, Heppner. Morrow County
Sheriff’s Office responded and found the people
were having an argument.

6:33 a.m. — Several emergency services re-
sponded to Highway 207, Lexington, for a car
that rolled. A caller said the driver had hit his
head and was out of the car. An ambulance
transported the driver to Pioneer Memorial
Hospital, Heppner.
9:49 a.m. — Stanfield police responded to Food
Basket, West Elementary School, Stanfield, on a
report of a burglary.
5:53 p.m. — A 911 caller on Northeast McCallis-
ter Lane, Hermiston, reported she has too many
dogs and has been trying to get rid of them.
She had a little Chihuahua that got out, and the
neighbor shot the dog. Umatilla County sheriff’s
deputies responded.

Janet L. “Jan” Beitel, 85, of Umatilla, died Aug. 5, 2022, in Herm-
iston. She was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Portland. A recitation of the
holy rosary will be Aug. 26, 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady Of Angels Cath-
olic Church, 565 W. Hermiston Ave., Hermiston. Followed by Mass

Jesse L. Branson, 64, of Irrigon, died July 28, 2022, at his home in

Monday, Aug. 8
12:16 a.m. — A caller reported the theft of a ve-
hicle on Northwest Third Street, Hermiston.
2:37 a.m. — A caller reported about seven peo-
ple were in a fight on West Sunland Avenue,
Hermiston. Police could not find the fracas.
9:45 a.m. — Umatilla police responded to Uma-
tilla Marina RV Park, 1710 Quincy Ave., on a re-
port of several campers being broken into.
3:44 p.m. — Morrow County Sheriff’s Office re-
ceived a report of a person threatening to shoot
someone’s animals.
5:53 p.m. — A caller at Port View Apartments,
320 Columbia Ave. N.E., Boardman, reported
her 15-year-old foster sister assaulted her.
10:23 p.m. — A resident on Northeast Elder
Street, Heppner, reported his neighbor is cut-
ting wood and throwing it around. The caller
said he told the the neighbor it was too late for
that, and an argument ensued. The caller asked
the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office to have the
neighbor stop.
10:39 p.m. — Hermiston police received a re-
port about elder abuse on Northeast Aspen
Drive. Police took a report.

Pamela Lee Haney, 66, of Baker City, formerly of Echo, died
June 21, 2022, at her home in Baker City. She was born Oct. 1, 1955,
in Baker City. A service will be Aug. 12, 10 a.m. at Echo Cemetery.

1:18 a.m. — A caller reported six or seven peo-
ple were fighting outside the Knights Inn/Vil-
Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Renee
Dorian Bousquet, 49, for two counts each of
identity theft and fraud by credit card and one
count each of theft by receiving and first-de-
gree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Dennis L. Schlink, 78, of Hermiston, died July 23, 2022, in
Payson, Arizona. He was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Phoenix. A celebra-
tion of life will be Aug. 20, 1 p.m. at Living Faith Church, 1611 Diag-

two days hard time before release,
two years of probation, one year

Round-Up, Happy Canyon
partners offer BMCC
scholarship
PENDLETON — The Pend-
leton Round-Up & Happy
Canyon Hall of Fame wran-
gled in support from Pendleton
Round-Up stock contract per-
sonnel to provide a scholarship
to a Blue Mountain Community
College student. This is the sec-
ond year the scholarship has
been offered.
The Pendleton Round-Up
& Happy Canyon Hall of Fame
Contract Personnel Scholar-
ship provides $2,500 to assist
a BMCC student with educa-
tional costs, including tuition,
fees, books, housing, food, utili-
ties or fuel.
One recipient from qualified
applicants will be selected to re-
ceive the scholarship award.
Applicants must be able to
show proof of enrollment at
BMCC for the 2022-23 winter
term and hold a minimum 2.0
GPA. Interested students must
submit a completed application
along with an essay (maximum
750 words) that answers a ques-
tion as to why the Pendleton
Round-Up and Happy Canyon
are important to them and to
the community. The scholarship
deadline is Sept. 2.
The scholarship winner
will be announced — and in-
troduced, if present — during
the Sept. 14 performance of
the Pendleton Round-Up. The
announcement will be made
during the Hall of Fame In-
ductee Introduction event in the
Round-Up Arena.

Hermiston student
makes dean’s list at
Maryland school
The University of Maryland
Global Campus recently an-
nounced that Brooke Dilley of
Hermiston was named to the
spring 2022 dean’s list. To be eli-
gible for the honor, students must
complete at least six credits and
earn a GPA of at least 3.5 for the
term, as well as maintain a cumu-
lative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.
Celebrating its 75-year anni-
versary, UMGC was established
in 1947 to serve adults in the
workforce. A separate insti-
tution from the University of
Maryland at College Park, it is
part of the University System of
Maryland.
With an enrollment of 90,000
students annually, it offers un-
dergraduate and graduate de-
gree programs as well as cer-
