The funds are coming from the Tillamook County Creamery Association and Business Oregon’s allot- ment of coronavirus relief package funds. Grants will be dispersed in amounts from $2,500 to $25,000 determined by the number of employees and amount of 60-day fi xed expenses. “Local businesses make up the fabric of our com- munity and they are hurt- ing due to the impacts of COVID-19,” Morrow County Commissioner Melissa Lindsay stated in the release. “Businesses can now access these funds, and we encourage everyone who meets the criteria to apply as soon as they can.” Only Morrow County businesses and organiza- tions are eligible to apply, and must meet the follow- ing criteria: • The business must have 25 or fewer employees. • The business must be headquartered in Ore- gon and have its prin- cipal operations in Oregon. • If required by Ore- gon law to be registered with the Oregon Secre- tary of State to do busi- ness in Oregon, the busi- ness must be registered. • The business was affected in either one of the following ways: 1.) Prohibited from opera- tion as directed by Exec- utive Order 20-12 or 2.) Can demonstrate a one- month decline in sales of 50% or more, begin- ning in March 2020. Businesses and organi- zations aren’t eligible to apply if they’ve already received relief funding from the “State of Ore- gon COVID-19 Emer- gency Business Grant pro- gram or from the Statewide Business and Cultural Sup- port Program,” the release stated. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2020 Warming: can also make donations. Francis said the warm- ing station is running on a “very slim budget” this year after not getting a grant it normally does. People can donate money to pay for background checks for volunteers and supplies. The warming sta- tion also takes donations of supplies, and Francis said they are in particu- lar need of single-serving, microwavable soup cups and macaroni cups to serve to guests. To raise money, they are raffl ing off a 6 foot by 10 foot 2014 Mirage cargo trailer, and people can also choose the Herm- iston Warming Station as a recipient of Amazon Smile funds when they purchase items through Amazon. They are working on setting up a drop box for donations, but for now people can call the Warm- ing Station at 541-303- 3256 to set up a time to donate. Continued from Page A1 being open until 10 p.m. each night so guests can come in and warm up for a little bit and have some soup. The board has sched- uled 16 different training times for volunteers (see accompanying informa- tion box). All volunteers, including returnees, must complete the 90-min- ute training session and have a background check before volunteering. Colder, snowier win- ters usually mean an increase in guests for area warming stations. On Monday, Oct. 26, Hermis- ton saw a record-low tem- perature for the date, at 18 degrees. Other surround- ing communities also set records Sunday, Oct. 25.
