Wednesday, March 11 12:38 p.m. — Someone reported that young adults have been racing vehicles in their neighborhood of Southwest 10th Street and West Cody Avenue about 10 p.m. every night, and asked for extra patrols in the area. Thursday, March 12 9:50 a.m. — A caller stated her family gave a man $1,200 to take to the jail, but he stole it instead. 10:44 a.m. — A hit and run was reported on West Joseph Avenue. 4:22 p.m. — A man reported someone hit his wife’s vehicle last Thursday and drove away. 8:23 p.m. — A drunk driver was reported on Northwest 11th Street. Friday, March 13 12:13 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported on West Ridgeway Avenue. 3:24 p.m. — Someone reported their child was assaulted while getting off the school bus on Northeast Sixth Place. 4:10 p.m. — A caller reported she was being harassed at her home on Southwest Suzanne Court. 4:57 p.m. — A caller reported someone threw soda all over his car in the Hermiston High School parking lot. 6:05 p.m. — A disturbance was reported on East Main Street. Saturday, March 14 1:05 a.m. — A disturbance was reported on Southwest Oak Drive. 12:19 p.m. — A disturbance was reported on West Ridge- way Avenue by a woman whose son would not leave when she wanted him to. 7:10 p.m. — A domestic disturbance was reported on Southwest 11th Street. Sunday, March 15 1 a.m. — A fi ght was reported on East Main Street, but police were unable to locate it. 7:23 a.m. — A hit and run was reported on West Orchard Avenue. 12:19 p.m. — A drunk driver was reported on South High- way 395. 6:32 p.m. — Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle was reported on East Montana Avenue. Monday, March 16 9:03 a.m. — Two diff erent callers reported a blue Honda Accord with the right side of its bumper missing doing 40 to 50 miles per hour on Standard Avenue by Rocky Heights Elementary. 12:12 p.m. — A hit and run was reported on East Beebe Avenue. The driver was cited and released. 5:44 p.m. — A driver reportedly hit their neighbor’s house with their vehicle and then drove off , on Northeast 10th Street. 7:34 p.m. — An assault was reported on Southwest 11th Street. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2020 City of Hermiston announces new COVID-19 adjustments By JADE MCDOWELL NEWS EDITOR The city of Hermiston announced new closures to encourage social distancing on Tuesday afternoon. According to a news release by the city, the Hermiston Municipal Court will be closed to the pub- lic for two weeks beginning Thursday, March 19. Trials and court appear- ances will be rescheduled and sent via mail. Online payment is still available at hermiston.or.us/ municipal-court/home and court staff can be reached at 541-567-6610. The city council still plans to hold its March 23 meeting, but in order to limit the gathering to fewer than 25 people, the public is encouraged to participate via video livestream or con- ference call. Details of the proce- dures will be provided on the city’s website at a later date. The city is also allowing residents who are enrolled in the taxi ticket program for senior and disabled citi- zens to use their ride vouch- ers to cover the cost of delivery for food they have ordered. Call 541-567-6055 to reserve a ride. Parks and recreation pro- grams continue to be sus- pended until at least April 12. The utilities department will not shut off water or electric service for non-pay- ment for now, but bill pay- ment and collection will continue as usual. Missing Umatilla teacher found safe HERMISTON HERALD A missing Umatilla High School math teacher was found safe on March 11. Lorenzo Sanchez, 29, had been missing since Feb. 27. Deputy Calvin Meade reported he was found safe in Denver and is with fam- ily. He said he had not had a chance to speak with San- chez yet, and the reasons for Sanchez’s disappearance were still unknown. “Obviously students and staff have all been concerned about his wel- fare,” he said. “... The good thing is he has been found, he is safe and he is with family.” Sanchez’s roommates had reported Feb. 27 he did not return home the night before, and he was not heard from again until a relative reported he had sent them a Facebook message on March 7 but had not replied to their response. His car was located in Providence, Utah last week. Superintendent Heidi Sipe said she was happy to know that Sanchez is safe, even if she didn’t have details yet about what had happened. Sanchez has been with the school district since 2017, fi rst as an educational assistant and then as a math teacher. EO Media Group names regional sales director HERMISTON HERALD Veteran newspaper leader Karrine Brogoitti has been named regional sales direc- tor for EO Media Group’s east side operations, which includes six print newspa- pers and associated websites. Brogoitti, who already serves as regional publisher of the La Grande Observer and the Baker City Herald newspapers, will continue in that role. Family-owned EO Media Group purchased the La Grande and Baker City newspapers in July 2019. It also operates newspapers in Pendleton, Hermiston, John Day and Enterprise. “Since acquiring the La Grande Observer and Baker City Herald last July, I’ve been very impressed with Karrine’s passion, leader- ship and her commitment to the com- munities and busi- nesses we serve,” said Brogoitti EO Media Group COO Heidi Wright. “With Kar- rine taking on a regional sales and marketing leader- ship role and our company’s recent investment in new technology, I have no doubt our Eastern Oregon proper- ties will grow and continue the company’s 112-year commitment to the region.” A lifelong resident of La Grande, Brogoitti’s news- paper career spans nearly 25 years. She started at The Observer in June 1997 as an advertising sales assis- tant, then was promoted to a multimedia marketing sales position in July 1998. She was later promoted in December 2014 to adver- tising manager, and then again in December 2015 to regional advertising direc- tor of Western Communi- cation’s Northeast Oregon properties.
