Wednesday, december 12, 2018 RECORDS HermIsTOnHeraLd.cOm • A5 OBITUARIES Gary Grieb Margaret Ann Brown Hermiston July 23, 1940 — December 8, 2018 Hermiston April 19, 1952 — December 4, 2018 Gary Grieb of Herm- iston was born July 23, 1940, in Spokane, Wash., the son of Bert and Gertrude Grieb. He passed away after a brief illness in Hermis- ton on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the age of 78. Gary grew up on the family wheat farm near Hatton Grieb and attended schools in Lind, graduating from Wa-Hi in Walla Walla, Wash. He spent most of his teenage years showing cat- tle across the Northwest. As an adult, he farmed in Condon and Stanfield before settling on the cur- rent family wheat farm north of Lexington, Ore. He later moved to Herm- iston where he did custom haying until his retirement. Besides farming wheat, Gary was a well respected Angus cattle breeder. He raised and exhibited numerous champions at cattle shows throughout the country. He always encouraged his kids as they showed cattle at the county, state and national levels. He was a member of the American Angus Association, Morrow County Cattleman’s Asso- ciation, Morrow County Grain Growers Board and the Oregon Wheat League. He was in the stands for as many ball games that he could attend to watch his chil- dren and then grandchildren and was an avid supporter of Heppner and Hermiston athletics. Gary married Virginia Nelson in 1959; from this union three children, Ken, Julie and Geri, were born. The couple later divorced. Many years later he mar- ried Sue Riddle and they later divorced. He is survived by his son Ken (Carri) Grieb; daughters Julie (Mark) Weimar and Geri Grieb; and six grandchildren: Paige, Logan and Claire Grieb, Halle, Parker and Brandon Weimar. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan Grieb. At his request, no ser- vice will be held. Arrange- ments by Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. She passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in Portland at the age of 66. Margaret grew up in Hermiston and graduated from Brown Hermiston High School in the class of 1970. After high school, she attended the University of Oregon in Eugene for one year. She then attended the Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Port- land where she received her Registered Nursing certifi- cation. After completing the nursing program she con- tinued to live and work in the Portland area for several years. Margaret married Ken- neth Brown on November 21, 1981, in Hermiston. The couple made their home in Hermiston where she has resided since. She worked as an RN at Good Shepherd Medical Center for 25 years and at Two Rivers Correc- tional Institution for 10 years. She retired Decem- ber of 2016. Margaret enjoyed going horseback riding and designing and making jew- elry. She loved spending time with her family (especially her grandson) and friends. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ken- neth; daughter Alexis (Jon- athan) Gustafson; and one grandson, Max. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George. Terry Lee Francis Stanfield April 10, 1954 — December 6, 2018 Terry Lee Francis of Stanfield was born April 10, 1954, in St. Helens, Oregon, the son of Gus and Bertha (Dinges) Francis. He passed away in Stanfield on Thurs- day, December 6, 2018, at the age of 64. Terry grew up and attended grade school on Sau- Francis vie Island and high school in Scappoose, Ore- gon. He moved to the Herm- iston area in 1976 where he has resided since. He worked for C&B Livestock and Pioneer Implement for many years. But his favorite job, that he took so much pride in, was working as a livestock brand inspector for the state of Ore- gon for the last 20 years. He did it his way, while doing what he loved and gaining a whole new family ... his cat- tle family. Terry enjoyed raising, showing and traveling the country to showcase his Cor- riente cattle, that he took so much pride in. He loved to team rope, help his grandkids with their show cattle, wild cow milking at the Pendle- ton Round-Up and admiring his herd he and Anna worked so hard for. Terry mar- ried Anna Ban- zhof on June 21, 1996. He was so very loved and we will miss him every day. Teresa Dunn Hermiston February 12, 1962 — December 9, 2018 Teresa Dunn of Hermis- ton was born February 12, 1962, in Oregon City, Oregon, the daughter of Allan and Lavonne Pyatt. She passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, in Hermis- ton at the age of 56. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Dunn; sister Bonnie; TerDunn brothers Mike and Ron; children Brent, Tony, Cassie and Caitlyn; and 12 grandchildren. July 20, 1934 — November 30, 2018 Diane Joye Tompkins Hutchinson Sampson was born on July 20, 1934, in Seattle, Wash., to par- ents Mary Evalena Forgey Tompkins and Kenneth Tompkins. She died on Nov. 30, 2018, at the age of 84 in Olympia, Wash. She lived in Seattle until her parents divorced, and her mother took her to live in Los Angeles. In 1948, after her mother remarried, the family lived in Vancouver, Wash. She grad- uated from Fort Sampson Vancouver High School in 1952, then attended Clark Col- lege where she met David Hutchinson. While at Clark College, Mom was the edi- tor of the college’s annual, the Galopagon. After grad- uating in 1954, Mom and Dad were married in August in Vancouver. Our parents moved to Corvallis, Ore., so that Dave could get his degree at Ore- gon State University. The couple moved to Portland in 1956 so that Dave could start his career at US Bank. Their first child, Karen, was born in 1957, followed by Joyce in 1958, and Sally in 1960. The family moved to Hermiston, where son Mike was born in 1962. Dad transferred to Baker, Ore. They lived there until the latter part of 1969 when Dad was transferred back to Hermiston. Mom and Dad divorced. She married Marv Sampson in March of 1985 in Vancouver, where they lived for a time and then moved to Olympia for Marv’s job, where they have lived ever since. Mom was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Bloomer Girls Garden Club – she was president of the garden club from 1974- 1976. She was a 4-H leader and was so patient. She was an avid reader, who passed on her love of reading to her children. Mom’s favorite holiday was Christmas. The house would be decorated to the hilt each year. She would make fudge, divin- ity, Spritz cook- ies and all kinds of other goodies. She made Christ- mas so special for us kids. In her later years, Mom embraced the computer and was part of two differ- ent online book clubs and enjoyed meeting some of the local fans. She was a kind and caring per- son who touched the lives of everyone who met her. She is survived by her husband, Marv; her daugh- ters Karen Hutchinson-Ta- laski (Michael), Hermiston, Joyce Henry, Umatilla, and Sally Huber, Pasco, Wash.; son Michael Hutchinson, Pendleton; her cousins Pamela Forgey, Seattle, and Melissa Walter, New York; her grandchildren Charlie Brown, Ridgefield, Wash., Sara Massey, Albany, Kris- ten Robinson, Canby, and Paige Silva, Grants Pass; great-grandchildren Lau- relle, Charlotte, Brody, Kaden, and Peyton; her dog Ginger; and former hus- band Dave Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her mother, her father and her stepfather. Disposition was by cre- mation, and a private fam- ily service was held on Dec. 8, 2018.
