A8 • HERMISTONHERALD.COM WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2018 LOCAL Turkey Trot raises money for warming stations Annual fun run/walk is on Thanksgiving Day By TAMMY MALGESINI COMMUNITY EDITOR Before succumbing to the relaxing effects of a tryptophan-rich turkey din- ner, people are invited to participate in the annual Turkey Trot. Featuring both a 5K run/ walk and a kids 1-mile dash, the event is coordinated by Club 24. Money raised from the Turkey Trot helps pro- vide support to warming stations in both Hermiston and Pendleton. A family-friendly event, people are encouraged to bundle up and wear cos- tumes. Check-in and race day registration is Thurs- day, Nov. 22 — Thanksgiv- ing Day — from 8-9 a.m. in front of Sno Road Win- ery, 111 W. Main St., Echo. The race officially starts at 9 a.m. — offering participants plenty of time to get home afterwards to put the turkey in the oven. The registration fee is $15 for adults, $10 for youths 16 and younger and free for children under age 6. The course is wheelchair accessible and people can bring their well-mannered dogs. In addition to finan- cial support, both warm- ing stations are in need of volunteers. The Hermiston Warming Station is located at 1075 S. Highway 395 (across from Tower Apartments, next to Cornerstone Plaza). For more information, call board chair Teesie Hill at 541-289-2150 or text to 541-561-9485. For more information or to pre-register for the Tur- key Trot, visit www.brown- papertickets.com or stop by the local Club 24, 832 S. Highway 395, Hermis- ton. OregonCapitalInsider.com By JADE MCDOWELL STAFF WRITER A new business is bringing a taste of Europe to Hermiston. Paint & Patina, which opened last week at 158 E Main St., features art supplies, dresses, beauty products, teas and more imported from Europe. Owner Chelle Long- ley was busy decorating a white and gold Christ- mas tree in the window on Friday afternoon. Decora- tive shelves placed stra- tegically around the shop were stocked with a vari- ety of 100 percent nat- ural vegan chalk paints, French stencils and vin- tage art supplies. The business also fea- tures home decor from the Jeanne d’Arc Living line and Goldleaf beauty prod- ucts. Longley said the storefront is an outgrowth of her online business, French Charmed. She said her love of bringing European goods to the United States stems from her love of travel. “I’ve traveled to Europe quite a bit in the past,” she said. “I fell in love with Paris when I first went 25 years ago.” Now that she has two daughters living overseas — one in Germany and one in London — she has even more of an excuse to travel abroad and find new lines of products to bring to customers in the area. She hopes customers will enjoy finding some- thing a little different. Longley has past retail experience, including a lingerie store in Herm- iston in the 1990s and past shops in Echo and Umatilla. Longley plans to have an open house sometime in December, and to start paint classes in the new year. While she is still get- ting settled her hours are 12:30-5:30 p.m. on Thurs- days and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. on Satur- days, or by appointment.
