Domestic Violence Services is seek- ing gift baskets, valued at $40 or more to be used for a silent auction. If people don’t have the time or resources to create an entire basket, they are invited to donate what they have and organizers will assem- ble a basket. In its 14th year, the Soup Bowl Supper & Silent Auction is Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Sisters Cafe, 308 S. Main St., Pendleton. The cost is $25 per person. People get to keep their bowls, which are handcrafted by Clay in Motion. A nonprofit organization, Domestic Violence Services has served Umatilla and Morrow counties for more than 40 years. In addition to shelters in Hermiston and Pendleton, it maintains a 24-hour crisis line (800-833-1161), provides safety plan- ning, life skills classes, support groups and other advocacy activities for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. BOLI workshop to discuss employment laws Business owners and others interested in employment laws are invited to work- shops presented by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. The Thursday session, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., addresses “Wage and Hours Laws.” The registration fee is $185. Then, on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, the topic is “Documentation, Discipline and Discharge. It costs $75. Both workshops take place at the Workforce Training Cen- ter, 251 Olson Road, Boardman.
