WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 2018 HERMISTONHERALD.COM • A5 RECORDS OBITUARIES ANNIVERSARY Paul Ables Carla Annette (Miles) Morter Hermiston September 1, 1934 - June 18, 2018 Heppner February 16, 1966 - June 21, 2018 Paul Wayne Ables, 83, passed away on June 18, 2018, in Hermiston, Oregon, after many years of living in Umatilla County. He was well known for riding his scooter, shopping at thrift stores, sing- ing for those willing to listen, dancing a jig, fishing, watching birds, dogs, and for his love of family. He often told his Ables family that he loved them. He was endeared by many caretakers who assisted him during his years of chronic illness. He was a long term resident of Pilot Rock, Oregon, and much of his career was spent work- ing in sawmills. He was also a property manager. Paul was proud of his Arkansas roots and was quick to befriend other peo- ple who had lived or trav- eled there. His love of music and devotion to his state of birth was exempli- fied by sharing his love of singer Johnny Cash with his belated grandson. Paul had an extensive record collec- tion and eagerly attended local music events. He was familiar with countless songs. One of his favorite games was to ask someone to cue him with one word and he would respond by singing a lyric to a song that contained the word. He loved sweet treats, conversing with people, singing, country and gos- pel music, trees and plants such as rhubarb and tomatoes. He was a pretty good histo- rian until the end of his days and could name all the coun- ties in Arkansas by memory. Paul was born on Sept. 1, 1934, in Leola, Arkansas, to Joseph and Leita Ables. Paul is pre- ceded in death by his father, Joseph Ables; his mother, Leita Ables; his brothers, Baby Ables, Joe Ables and J.C. Ables; his sister, Fran- cis Scheel; and his grandson, Tyler Bischke. He is sur- vived by his daughter, Beth Petz (Mark) and his grand- daughter, Julie Brzozowski (Drew); his son, Roger Ables (Kim) and grandchil- dren, Derek Ables, Travis Ables and Brooke Ables; and his daughter, Bonnie Bischke (Arlen) and grand- daughters Jennifer Bischke and Andrea Walters; and an ex-wife, Louise Ables.
