SPORTS/OPINION WEDNESDAY, JULY 12, 2017 LETTER TO THE EDITOR Hermiston places second in Intermediate Baseball The Hermiston all- stars placed second at the Oregon Little League State Tournament on July 5. Hermiston fell to Ash- land in the champion- ship, 21-10. No details from the games were available. Hermiston had started its tournament run with a 9-5 win over Reyn- olds, then stomped the host team Grants Pass, 20-5, before running up against Ashland for the first time. That one went to Ash- land, 17-7, but Hermis- HERMISTONHERALD.COM • A9 President Trump’s requests for voter information are inappropriate This letter is my take on our free press, Presi- dent Trump and associ- ates. President Trump has had six months to prove himself worthy of the high office he holds. As commander in-chief, he has handed off the leader- ship to the military gen- erals, given them carte blanche to do as they will. This is one of many missteps that have gone on. These six months have been the most cha- otic in recorded history. The chaos made worse by the daily tweets at- tacking people unjustly, many members of our ton wasn’t done yet and battled a revenge-mind- ed Grants Pass to reach championship game. After a back-and-forth game, Hermiston beat Grants Pass, 23-22. Hermiston was coached by Manager Chris Elliott, Justin Hen- derson and Josh Stocker. Members of the team are: Derek Devin, Hunt- er Dyer, Chase Elliott, Josh Fernandez, Kaid- en Henderson, Caden Hottman, Jacob Parker, Aaron Ransom, Fabian Rosales, Jaydon Sanchez and Tyson Stocker. free press, CNN MSN- BC, NBC, CBS and many others have been vicious- ly attacked. He seems to have a bias against wom- en, particularly journal- ists. He cannot seem to allow any criticism of himself or his adminis- tration, event though it is factual. This is speaking truth to power, an essential process that keeps our democracy alive and well. I have found report- ers to be truthful in their stories and articles. They have to verify with two sources. I followed the fact checking of almost 450 statements made by Pres- ident Trump to be un- truthful. Apparently this is his mode conduct in business, TV shows and now the presidency. Trust is so important in this high office. We the peo- ple depend on our elected officials to be depend- able, truthful and trans- parent. He has appointed a commission to request voter information — names, addresses, birth dates, last four digits of social security numbers, what party he or she be- longs to and how he or she cast their vote. Ore- gon’s secretary of state, Dennis Richardson, is complying with some of these requests. Many states are protecting their citizens by denying, as they should, any and all possible illegal given in- formation. I, for one, am in- censed at these requests as inappropriate. Under the guise of checking for voter fraud these re- quests are happening now. We have not had any voter fraud. This is wrong and I question the motives behind the requests. We are all at risk when this kind of personal information is revealed. I ask for what purpose, really?
