NEWS IN BRIEF
Brown reinstates
Governor’s Arts Awards
Governor Kate Brown, in
partnership with the Oregon Arts
Commission, has reinstated the
Governor’s Arts Awards.
After a 10-year hiatus, the
event’s revival honors the Arts
Commission’s 50 years of service
to Oregon’s arts community.
“Art is a fundamental ingre-
dient of any thriving and vibrant
community,” Brown said. “Art
sparks connections between peo-
ple, movements, and new ideas.
To put it simply, art makes life
better.”
The Governor’s Arts Awards
recognizes individuals, organi-
zations, and arts supporters who
have made significant contribu-
tions to the arts in Oregon. The
awards are open to any individ-
ual, organization, or community
that currently resides in or has a
significant presence in Oregon
and has made outstanding con-
tributions to the arts in the state.
Past Governor’s Arts Awards
recipients are not eligible. Nom-
inations must be submitted by
Friday, June 30 at www.orego-
nartscommission.org.
Recipients will be notified

will be honored in a ceremony
at Friday, Oct. 6 at 8 a.m. at the
Portland Hilton Downtown.
Ave., and online at www.hermis-
tonlibrary.us. Adults can pick up a
packet starting Monday, June 19.
