Lankford Patricia Ann Allen Portland November 8, 1923-August 29, 2016 Echo July 20, 1934-September 9, 2016 Stanield Dolores (Hewitt) Ati- yeh, 92, the wife of Or- egon Governor Victor Atiyeh (1979-87), died peacefully in Portland on August 29th at a Portland-area care center. Dolores was born November 8, 1923, in Portland, Oregon, where she attended public schools. She met Atiyeh Victor, while both were students, at Wash- ington High School. During her senior year, she was recognized in Who’s Who in American High Schools. She was a scholarship honor student at the University of Ore- gon, where she studied art and joined sorority Alpha Chi Omega. Dolores Hewitt and Victor Atiyeh were mar- ried July 5, 1944. As Oregon’s First Lady, Dolores Atiyeh was in- volved in numerous char- itable, historic and arts organizations. In 1979 she was appointed honorary chairman of the Oregon International Year of the Child Commission, an all-volunteer commission which focused attention on concerns for Oregon’s children’s health, educa- tion and nutrition. She was honored with the White Rose Award in 1983 by the March of Dimes. Mrs. Atiyeh was a member of the Gover- nor’s Committee for the Exhibiting of Art in the governor’s ceremonial and reception area, and a member of Arts Coali- tion Northwest. She was honorary chair of stew- ards with the Historical Preservation League of Oregon and served as a board member and chair of the Wom- en’s Council and committees for the Portland Art Mu- seum. She helped host an event at the museum featuring a statue from Palmy- ra, Syria, that was donated by her father-in- law, George Atiyeh. Both Dolores and Vic- tor enjoyed the Pendleton Round-Up and the respect of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Dolores really bonded with the 1973 Senior Rose Festival Court where she served as chaperone. Upon returning to Portland from Salem she researched, and was admitted into, the Daughters of the Ameri- can Revolution. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, who died on July 20, 2014, just 15 days after the cou- ple had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her im- mediate family, son Tom Atiyeh (wife Leslie), and daughter Suzanne Atiyeh, plus ive grandchildren. SUNDAY 2:41 p.m. - A Stanield woman told police her “ex has the remains of her dog that was hit by a train and won’t return them to her.” 6:28 p.m. - Goats ate a man’s trees and tore up his property of Downey Road, Boardman. 9:24 p.m. - A caller reported his vehicle sustained damage at Umatilla River Road and Bonney Lane, Umatilla, after he drove into a cooler that fell of the truck in front of him. SATURDAY 9:19 a.m. - Gunshots from dove hunters spoked a horse at West Prog- ress and North Ott roads, Hermiston. The horse owners asked the Umatilla County sherif’s oice to send a deputy to stop the shooting. 10:15 a.m. - A man on Diagonal Road, Hermiston, told law enforcement he needs protection from a man he has let live in his back yard. The man was a thief, has a pistol and broke the caller’s ankle last Sunday, according to the report. The caller said he now wants the man of his property. 1:38 p.m. - A person with blond hair in a pony tail and wearing a black hooded sweat shirt stole a bag from a woman in a wheelchair on Northeast Gilmore Street, Heppner. FRIDAY 10:30 a.m. - A Stanield woman reported she was in bed with a broken back and her ex-boyfriend has held her down and then trashed her house. 3:03 p.m. - A semitrailer went airborne after crashing into a farming tractor on the eastbound side of Interstate 82 near the Powerline Road exit, Umatilla. Oregon State Police reported the semi was going 63 mph when it came upon the tractor and its dolly going no more than 25 mph. The semi driver tried to avoid the collision, lost control, hit the farming rig, lew into the air and crashed in the grassy median. No one reported injuries, according to state police, and the tractor driver received a citation. 6:42 p.m. - A resident on Rudder Lane, Hermiston, called 9-1-1 and reported a goat was loose and on the road. The goat also was too big for the caller to capture and put in its pen. 6:43 p.m. - A Umatilla woman on Yakima Street reported she paid a neighbor to put up a fence, but instead he just took the money and did nothing. 6:51 p.m. - Morrow County Sherif’s Oice responded to a report of a neglected and abandoned dog covered in ticks and at Tower Road exit of Interstate 84. Deputies found the dog and took it to Humane Society of Eastern Oregon/Pet Rescue, Hermiston. THURSDAY 6:49 a.m. - A caller told Hermis- ton police he was following a white Pontiac full of stolen items from the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 1350 N. First St., Hermiston. 7:33 a.m. - Umatilla police received an anonymous tip that a man wanted on several warrants was at the Umatilla Inn & Suites, 1370 Sixth St., Umatilla. 7:54 a.m. - A woman reported she left jewelry at Comfort Inn & Suites, 77514 S. Highway 207, Hermiston, and the hotel called her and said it was missing. 11:06 a.m. - A caller with the community garden at Good Shepherd Medical Center, 600 N.W. 11th St., Hermiston, reported an older man has been taking dirt from the site. 3:15 p.m. - A male at Lakeview Manor on East Dogwood Avenue, Hermiston, reported his roommate was drinking and consumed crystal meth, then became aggressive. The intoxicated roommate was inside the residence, which had no weapons other than kitchen knives. 8:04 p.m. - A bicycle-riding man on South Highway 395, Hermiston, threatened to slice a woman’s tires and her neck. The woman reported the man, about 28 years old, could be with a woman in her mid to late 20s and was going to Tower Apartments, 1150 S. Highway 395, Hermiston. WEDNESDAY 5:05 p.m. - A Umatilla resident reported his father stated he is sending people to assault him but he hung up when a dispatcher asked him for more information. 6:34 p.m. - A Umatilla resident asked to speak to an oicer regarding harassing texts she is receiving from her soon-to-be ex-mother-in-law. ARRESTS, CITATIONS MONDAY • Hermiston police arrested Miguel Munoz Gutierrez, 39, of Hermiston, for fourth-degree assault and harassment. The charges stem from domestic violence. SUNDAY • Umatilla police used a stun gun to take down repeat ofender Marco Antonio Carrillo. Umatilla police at about 5:15 p.m. at F and Seventh streets tried to arrest Carrillo, 28, of Umatilla, on a local warrant. He resisted oicer Natalia Tovey, according to court records, assaulted her and tried to get away. Umatilla police reported the short chase ended after an oicer shot Carrillo with a stun gun. Carrillo has convictions from 2007 through 2009 for burglary, theft and assault. He then skipped a court date in August related to a charge of driving under the inluence of intoxicants, which led to the arrest warrant. Carrillo on Monday pleaded not guilty to new charges of assaulting a public safety oicer, sec- ond-degree escape and resisting. His next hearing in Umatilla County Circuit Court is Sept. 19 in Pendleton, and he also remains in the Umatilla County Jail. • Hermiston police arrested Jordin Andru Grimm, 21, of 1650 W. Sunland Ave., Kennewick, Washington, for felo- ny fourth-degree assault, interference with making a report, second-degree criminal mischief and harassment. The charges stem from domestic violence. SATURDAY • An Oregon State Police trooper responding to a man causing prob- lems in a Hermiston business ended up arresting his signiicant other. Trooper Tricia Draze at 2:58 p.m. went to the Short Stop Circle K, 32553 E. Punkin Center Road, Hermiston, after a man made a disturbance there. The store manager told the trooper Jerry Sanders, 55, cannot come into the business because he makes trouble. The trooper tried to ind Sanders at his nearby house, but instead only found his girlfriend, Mary Ann Sanders, 50. Draze told her about the trespass situation and also checked to see if she had warrants. She did, and the trooper hauled Mary Ann Sanders to the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton. The trooper also went back to Jerry Sanders’ home on Sunday and warned him to not to return or call the business. WEDNESDAY • Pendleton police arrested Nika Lauren Kash Kash, 24, of Pendleton, for driving under the inluence of intoxicants. • Pendleton police arrested Gina Marie Perez, 32, of Umatilla, for possession of methamphetamine. • Pendleton police arrested Amber Danielle Gomez, 29, no address provided, for theft of services, sec- ond-degree trespass, resisting arrest and interfering with a peace oicer. • Oregon State Police made the following arrests after stopping a vehicle for operating without head- lights at 7:41 p.m. on Highway 37 near milepost 20 north of Pendleton: Ricky Sly Higheagle, 31, of Pend- leton, for possession of methamphet- amine, giving false information, felon in possession weapon and on two warrants; Ryan Tyler Patrick, 31, of Pendleton, for possession of meth- amphetamine and on a warrant; and Angela Kay Mitchell, 45, also of Pendleton, for DUII (controlled substance) and refusing to take a test for intoxicants.
